Jamie Langley column

Bradford Bulls being out of the top six is certainly out of the ordinary – it doesn’t normally happen.

We’ve not got the results we’ve wanted and other teams are performing around us but we’ll look to start putting that right on Sunday.

We’re not too concerned about the placings right now, we’re just concerned with Hull and the games that face us.

They’ve had some good results since Richard Agar came in and will look to repeat what they did to us in the Challenge Cup.

But we took plenty of positives from our match at St Helens. It might sound daft after losing 58-20 but the way we started in the first half was as good as anything we’ve produced in a while.

There was some really good football on show, we moved it around quite well and got forward really well, controlling most of that first period.

The second half let us down on the back of a steep penalty count and they ran away with it but there’d been encouraging signs. The attitude was good and the approach was a lot better. Now we need to build on that against Hull.

Stuart Cummings came in to see us this week to explain some of the penalty decisions that have gone against us recently.

It was a really positive and informative session. We picked up a lot of things from him and certainly some stuff that we hadn’t been too sure on.

A lot of us were quite surprised by a few of the calls but there were some rules we weren’t really aware of, especially regarding offsides around the play-the-ball.

We can work on that now though and we’ve got the ref’s perspective while, as Stuart points out, the refs are still learning themselves. They’ve only been in the full-time environment a couple of years and are still gaining experience at the highest level.

We’ve got to bear that in mind but now we’re going to take care of our side of things with discipline and hopefully get in control.
