BRADFORD (Park Avenue) have bowed out of this year’s FA Youth Cup.

They played their part in an entertaining first qualifying round tie at Handsworth but ultimately lost 5-2 to their hosts.

Handsworth took a very early lead, but Avenue hit back instantly through an Ollie Dawson penalty.

Owen Murphy’s Bradford boys fell behind again after a mix-up at the back, and Handsworth added a third goal on the half-hour mark.

But Avenue won another penalty seconds before the interval, and Dawson held his nerve to score again from the spot.

At 3-2 down, the visitors needed a strong start to the second half, but they did not get it, and Handsworth added a fourth goal on 50 minutes.

The hosts rubbed salt into Avenue’s wounds at the death, scoring a fifth goal in the final minute to seal their progression.

Brighouse Town were also knocked out of the competition, suffering a heavy 7-1 defeat at Guiseley.

George Sebine netted a hat-trick for Guiseley, while Max Dickinson helped himself to a brace.

The Lions will host York City’s Academy in the second qualifying round next Wednesday.

That game will take place at Nethermoor, with kick off at 7pm.
