BRADFORD (Park Avenue) have made it through the FA Cup preliminary round, and their neighbours also enjoyed success too.
Avenue left it late in their tie at Stocksbridge Park Steels on Thursday night, winning on penalties after scoring a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw.
The visitors took an early lead in Bracken Moor through striker David Nsingi, who netted from a tight angle, but Steels equalised before the break after capitalising on a defensive error.
Avenue fell behind right at the start of the second half after leaving an attacker unmarked to turn home a free-kick.
And with Yianni Abbas missing a virtual open goal for Avenue, following great work by John Lupaka, and Stocksbridge clearing multiple efforts off the line, it looked as if Bradford’s youngsters would be bowing out of the competition.
But Joe Potter was on hand to equalise for the visitors in the dying seconds, sending the game to penalties as a result.
And in a nervy shootout, Luke Morris was the hero in the Avenue goal, his saves contributing to a 2-1 win on spot-kicks which puts them into a game at Handsworth in the next round.
Guiseley’s youngsters also made it through in the competition, though they did it in more emphatic fashion than Avenue.
The Young Lions obliterated their poor hosts Yorkshire Amateur 7-0, sailing into a first qualifying round tie at Brighouse Town.
Brig’s young charges were involved in an exciting clash at Golcar United and made it through with an entertaining 3-2 win.
Farsley Celtic’s youth team begin their campaign in the first qualifying round at Bottesford Town.
