BRADFORD United have announced that men’s first team manager Akif Khan and his coaching staff will be stepping down from all managerial duties at the end of the season.

Due to personal commitments and being unable to fully commit to the role, Khan feels that now is the right time to step down and focus on his family.

He said: “Initially I was asked to step in an interim capacity by the chairman until a possible successor was found but accepted the role permanently after feeling energised and enjoying the project at the club.

“Winning the District Cup in the first season was a wonderful achievement for the boys and the club. We have created a legacy here which me and my team can be proud of.

“It’s has been an incredible journey with highs and lows, but I want to thank every single player that has played for me here over the years. It’s been a pleasure to manage and coach some of the very best talent Bradford has to offer.”

He went on to add: “The club has everything you need for developing the next generation of aspiring footballers; it’s a great environment to be part of. The club will always be close to my heart.”

Chairman Mani Salim went on to express his gratitude for the work Khan has done during his tenure at the club.

He said: “Akif came in when the team was struggling and instantly transformed the team. His energy has been infectious, almost Klopp-esque (Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager).

“He’s been a fantastic leader and led from the front. The club are losing one of the best managers around.

“He’s going to be a difficult man to replace that’s for sure, but he has helped lay the foundations for the future and we are confident that the club will continue to grow and develop some of the best talent in Bradford.”

The chairman further added: “There is going to be a focus on youth and developing local talent going forward. The club boasts youth teams in every age group and opportunities will be given to young talent from all over Bradford to showcase their abilities at the top of amateur football.”

Bradford United will now embark on their search for a new management team and have asked potential candidates to express their interest in taking over.

To do that, the club have encouraged people to message the club chairman Mani Salim directly on mani.salim@phoenixfc.uk or on 07535536665.
