TYLER Smith reckons his double act with Andy Cook is really starting to click and cannot wait to show the proof on the Valley Parade stage.

Smith has now scored six in six games and Cook nine in 10 as the pair helped themselves once more in Friday’s 3-1 win at Doncaster.

A first Boxing Day home game for six years against Morecambe on Tuesday with the visit of leaders Stockport to follow offers the perfect opportunity to further showcase their growing partnership.

Smith said: “We know we’re good working off each other. He knows my strengths, I know his and it’s working.

“We work on it a lot in training. We need to because then it pays off on game day and you can see that.”

Cook is two ahead of Smith on 12 goals after scoring twice at the Eco-Power Stadium. The former Hull man reached double figures with his well-taken strike after being superbly played in by the target man.

There did not look to be too much on when Cook received the ball in heavy traffic but Smith knew exactly what was coming.

“I just thought I had to be ready because there was going to be a chance here,” he added.

“Cooky’s Cooky and he’s good at fighting! That’s what he did, he came out with the ball, laid me on and I was able to put it in the top corner.

“There was never a second when I thought he was going to lose the ball. As a striker, you’ve got to be ready and I made sure I was.

“The pass was perfect, right in my path for me to open up and put the shot where I wanted.

“I back myself 100 per cent to score in those situations every single time. I work hard in training every day on those type of finishes.

“It doesn’t matter who’s in front in scoring as long as we both keep chipping away with the goals. It’s all about putting them in and contributing to the team.

“I know my job is to give something to the team, whether that’s goals, running in behind or putting myself about.”

The Bantams had to show character to extend their winning run to six games after falling behind early. But Smith never had any doubts that they would bounce straight back.

“It was a different challenge going behind,” he said. “We had to dig deep but we knew it was going to be a hard fight anyway.

“I wasn’t worried at all. I knew we were always going to have chances as the game went on and that’s what happened and we took them.

“It wasn’t a case of everyone start panicking because we’d gone a goal behind. We don’t do that.

“We stuck to the plan and knew the goals would be there.

“Everyone’s confident throughout the whole squad. The levels are high and it showed.

“The travelling fans were superb. It’s what we need and gives us that extra yard to go and perform.

“You can’t complain about the numbers that came down for a Friday night game. It was packed out and we gave the fans a good win.

“We know where we are and who’s above us. All we can do is focus on ourselves and keep chipping away for the three points to get up the league where we should be.

“We really are gelling now. Everyone knows the way we all play and we’re getting results.

“That’s the main thing. Games aren’t always going to be nice and we won’t dominate every week.

“But when we have to fight and still come out with a win, that’s a good sign.

“Getting wins on the bounce is good for any team. You can see the confidence is there.

“Roll on to the Morecambe game and let’s keep the wins coming.”
