Keighley Cougars have signed young prop Jordan Schofield from Wakefield Trinity, amid competition from elsewhere.

The 23-year-old joins Matt Foster's side on a one-year deal, just a month after making his Betfred Super League debut in Wakefield's defeat to Hull KR.

Schofield came through Wakefield's academy, but left the club to join Dewsbury Rams ahead of the 2021 Championship campaign.

He spent two seasons at the Rams, largely under Bradford Bulls' current interim head coach Lee Greenwood, but was unable to help prevent their relegation into League 1 in 2022.

He returned to Wakefield for 2023, but spent most of the season in the reserves, whereas he will be expecting to play a prominent part in the first team for Keighley in 2024.

Schofield said: "I had options elsewhere, but I had a phone call with Matt Foster that changed my thinking.

"I'm excited for the challenge here now and I'm looking forward to developing my game."
