IT was a tough weekend for Bradford (Park Avenue).
Their first-team suffered a poor 2-1 home defeat to Workington in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, while their youngsters also lost at Horsfall the night before.
The academy side were in FA Youth Cup action over in BD6, where they took on Gainsborough Trinity in the first qualifying round.
Gainsborough “outfought” Avenue all night, according to the latter’s academy technical director Tom McStravick, and went on to claim a 4-0 away win.
McStravick admitted Trinity were clinical, where Avenue were not, while he called the manner of the goals the hosts conceded “disappointing”.
Gainsborough now face a trip to Avenue’s rivals Guiseley in the next round.
The Lions’ youngsters made it through to the second qualifying round with a magnificent 10-0 win over Tadcaster Albion.
