IT'S been a truly remarkable season for Low Moor Lakers Ladies Rounders Team and it shows no sign of stopping as they fight to become national champions this weekend.

At the end of August - Low Moor sealed a historic West Yorkshire Division One title in their maiden season in the top tier - this coming after two promotions since their introduction into Division Three.

Not only have they be crowned league champions in 2023, they have also been victorious in the Regional Trophy and they'll have the chance to do it all over again when they travel to Leicester on Sunday (September 24) to compete in the National Finals.

Reflecting on a memorable season, Team Manager, Ainslie Priestley, said: "It's been hard work; we've put a lot of time and effort into it but it's been very rewarding for us a team. It's made us a lot stronger because we've had to work extremely hard to get the results we wanted in a very challenging league.

"We came up from Division Two thinking that we might be a mid-table side and that we would properly push towards the upper end of the table in the season after. However, we've achieved that in our first year so it's an amazing achievement."

Priestley added: "Seeing the team really step up and come together is something that I'm extremely proud of because we lost a few key players before the season started. We were a small team anyway, so that did knock us back a step but we've stayed united and driven to achieve our goals. Every member has contributed to our success massively and I couldn't be prouder."

Despite the club's success in the past couple of years, Priestley admitted that 2023 has been the pick of the bunch.

She said: "We've had some great times recently as a team but this is the season that exceeded all of our expectations. This was meant to the big leap for us; it was meant to be a season full of challenges, setbacks and learning curves but we've shown our true colours. We know now that we can compete at this level.

"To win the Division One title was beyond anything that we could have dreamed of so we're all over the moon."

After being crowned league and Regional Trophy champions, Low Moor now have the chance to complete an astonishing treble at the Nationals in Leicester on Sunday and with the high level of opposition present at the competition, victory would be all the more sweeter.

Priestley said: "Winning on Sunday would be a dream for us because it's not just a season's work going into this level of competition, it's all of the last few years that has seen us get to this point. The competition will be tough, so our performances will need to be even stronger but we have full belief in all the team."
