HEPWORTH & Idle won their derby at home to Haworth Road Meths to rise to equal fourth in Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One.

Opting to bat, the Westfield Laners slumped to 21-3 but were given a shot in the arm by Jonny Thompson (76) and Mark Davies (19), who added 67 for the fourth wicket.

Eventually they got up to 202-8, with Martin McCulley finishing on 39 not out after new-ball pair Tom Kaznowski (3-60) and Mohammed Sajjad (3-33) had caused the early problems.

Meths made a solid start to their reply and were 94-2, thanks to Naseeb Ali (31) and keeper Fahim Khan (23), but only Mohammed Sajjad (25) prospered after that and they were dismissed for 155, with Harry Pinkney bagging 6-38.

Second-placed Cowling defeated Eldwick & Gilstead by six wickets, making it five losses in six completed matches for the twin villages.

Visitors E&G chose to bat but only four made it into double figures – Steve Timperley (20), Mihir Dighe (46), skipper Arnie Raistrick (23) and No.10 Chris Child (33no).

However, their contributions were good enough for 122 out of their 164.

Cowling were always in control of the reply, with all six of their batters reaching double figures, topped by Laiq Ur Rehman (46no), who saw them home in the company of Wasim Hussain (26no).

Third-from-bottom Wilsden notched a vital five-wicket win at home to Haworth, which was just as well as second-from-bottom Denholme won at Sutton.

Haworth made 190-5 after being sent in, but, anchored by opener Chris Longley’s 90, Wilsden won in the 43rd over.

Longley hit 12 fours and a six from 107 balls and added 71 for the second wicket with his brother Pete (29) before skipper Sam Mitchell (35no) finished the job.

In Division Two, Hepworth & Idle II did not detain leaders Airedale for very long, being dismissed for 67 inside 21 overs, 21 of the runs coming from captain Mikey Newell.

Airedale won by eight wickets in the 23rd over.

Likewise, Bradford & Bingley III fell swiftly to another promotion contender in Thornton-in-Craven.

Taking first knock, Shahbaz Ahmed (32) and keeper Alex Tudge (26) made the vast majority of Bingley’s 83, with Thornton winning by eight wickets in the 17th over.

Cononley’s mid-summer stumble is giving Bingley Congs III heart before they face them on Saturday in Division Three.

While Cononley and Cowling II ran out of time to finish their match, Congs rolled over Wilsden II for 34 at Sandy Lane, with opener Glenn Stableford (15) the only man in double figures as Shahid Mahmood (4-11) and Ali Asghar (4-7) cut through them.

Third-placed Congs won by eight wickets in the 12th over to reduce the gap between them and second-placed Cononley to 25 points.

Leaders Bowling Baptist defeated Gargrave II by 100 runs after making 180-8, which was a recovery from 41-4 and 91-6.

Shahbaz Ishaq (32), Nadeem Khaliq (32no) and Nadeem Khan (62 off 43 balls, including six fours and three sixes) were responsible for the revival.

All seven Baptist bowlers then took at least a wicket as Gargrave were rumbled for 80, putting the victors 14 points ahead of Cononley.

In Division Four, Bowling Baptists’ second XI are third on 120 points, just six behind second-placed Silsden II, but they had a rude awakening at home to Ingrow II.

The latter made 86 at Scotchman Road, with Imran Muzafar (3-21) and Arslan Hussain (3-8) the best of eight bowlers.

However, Baptist could only reply with 81, despite 39 from opener Zar Ali and 12 not out from No.10 Hamid Mehmood.

There was a similar first-innings score at Cambing, where Hepworth & Idle III could only score 82 after winning the toss against Silsden II, who won by nine wickets at the end of the 13th over.
