IT was a night of firsts in the Gordon Rigg T20 Group A Cup with Sandal, Townville, East Bierley, Woodland, Farsley and New Farnley all putting their first victory on the board midweek.

Holders Woodlands defeated Jer Lane by 18 runs to go a point ahead of their opponents at the top of Pool Three.

In a match reduced to 15 overs per side due to the poor light, Woodlands scored 111-5 thanks largely to Elliot Richardson (40). Jer Lane were restricted to 93-7.

Overseas player Nisar Ahmad smashed 59 from just 21 balls as East Bierley chased down a Bankfoot total of 168-3 with seven balls to spare in another match reduced to 15 overs per side.

At the height of his onslaught, he smashed five fours and a six in an over from Usman Fareed which also included five wides for a total of 31 runs. Skipper Harvey Lockwood chipped in with an unbeaten 34 and even the efforts of spinner James Massheder (4-13) could not spare Bankfoot from defeat.

Danny Colehan led the way with an unbeaten 72 for Bankfoot and was backed up by skipper James Lee (35) and Hamzah Iqbal (32).

Farsley registered the night’s highest total of 198-8 as they defeated Pudsey Congs by 13 runs at red Lane. Opener Ben Wright (52) and Joe Pocklington who hit 50 from 24 balls set Farsley on the way to their challenging total before skipper Matthew Lumb weighed in with 35 not out.

Callum Oliver (50), Ashley Slater (48) and Yohan Mendis (46) fought hard, but Congs finished short of their target on 185-5.

New Farnley looked like slipping to a second defeat when they were reduced to 51-5 with the teenage Pudsey St Lawrence bowler Joshua Allinson (3-21) claiming the wickets of Mark Lawson, Aidan Langley and overseas Cam Fletcher.

A partnership of 70 between Alex Lilley (44) and Adam Ahmed (31no) helped New Farnley post a score of 132-6.

St Lawrence lost two early wickets and never really got going as they were restricted to 101-8 as New Farnley made good use of their four spin bowlers.

Congs still lead Pool Four on 29 points with St Lawrence second on 25 and New Farnley four points further back.

Townville marked their entrance to this year’s competition with a 16-run win over Pool One leaders Methley. Jonny Booth (37) and Jack Hughes (30) helped their young side make 150-8 despite spinner Josh Sullivan taking 3-20.

Australian Austin Humphrey (4-37) and Nash Charles (3-20) led the way as Methley were bowled out for 134, Yasir Ali scoring 30.

Overseas player Kasun Madushanka (40) and Michael Carroll (32) helped Sandal to a score of 154-8 as they defeated Carlton by 10 runs. Wasim Khaliq took 3-25 and Daniel Ford followed up with 56 but their efforts were insufficient to stave off defeat for Carlton who finished on 144-8.
