Joe Cullen did not last long at the Belgian Darts Open at the weekend, as he suffered a nasty shock in his first and only game.
As one of the top 16 seeds, the Bradford thrower went straight through to the last-32, where he was up against the world number 60, Canada’s Matt Campbell.
But Campbell proved too strong for Cullen in Wieze, pulling off a 6-3 victory.
The imperious Michael van Gerwen won the tournament, beating Luke Humphries 8-6 in a high-quality final.
Humphries has now reached three European Tour finals in 2023 so far, but lost them all.uHum
As for Wyke native Cullen, whose best display on the European stage this year was a semi-final appearance at the German Darts Grand Prix, he will be looking to bounce back at the Czech Darts Open this weekend.
That event in Prague is the eighth of the 13 European Tour events this season.
