Woodlands went to the top of the Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League Premier Division and boosted their hopes of retaining their crown with victory on a soggy Coronation Day.

They defeated Ossett by four wickets at Albert Terrace while many of their rivals were frustrated by rain.

Farsley were the only other side in the top-flight to manage to beat the weather and record a win as they overcame Bankfoot by 72 runs.

Woodlands skipper Brad Schmulian (5-44) and Chris Brice (3-27) had Ossett in a spin as the visitors were bowled out for 144.

They lost their last eight wickets for 31 runs as the innings quickly subsided despite 43 from skipper William Wade.

Woodlands were 128-6 when play was abandoned after 22 overs with them ahead of the DLS par score of 115. Sam Frankland led the way with 39 as Pakistan paceman Junaid Khan provided the main threat with a lively spell of 5-54.

After being put in to bat and bowled out for 157, Farsley roared back to bowl out Bankfoot for 85 to register their second win of the season.

James Rogers (3-14) struck early blows as Bankfoot slipped to 12-4 before spinner Joe Pocklington, kept up the pressure with 4-26. Hamzah Iqbal (42) battled hard but could not prevent his side sliding to defeat.

Farsley, who were put in to bat, had Stanley Brown (39) and opener Chris Beech (37) to thank for getting them to what proved to be a match-winning total, with skipper James Lee (4-32) and leg spinner James Massheder (4-51) were the best of the home bowlers.

Cam Fletcher made a stunning maiden Bradford Premier League century as New Farnley scored over 300 for the second successive week at Tofts Road.

The talented New Zealander hit 16 sixes and eight fours in his unbeaten 162 from 110 balls, including 34 from the final over of the innings, to push his side’s total up to 310-4.

But rain brought play to a halt before St Lawrence could bat. It was a similar story in the matches at Hanging Heaton, Methley and Townville.

Bradford & Bingley were made to battle for runs as Hanging Heaton’s opening bowlers Mustafa Rafique (4-27) and spinner Max Chappell (4-51) posed problems. Jack Luxton (42) was their top scorer in a total of 175.

Jer Lane’s batsmen again found the going tough at Townville where they were dismissed for 145 before play was abandoned.

Opener Adal Islam (38) was the only player to make an impression, while spinner Harry Clewett took 4-39 for Townville.

Spinner Josh Sullivan (4-40) helped third-placed Methley restrict Pudsey Congs to 145-9, but again the rain proved to be the winner.

Try telling Division One leaders Cleckheaton that lightning doesn’t strike twice.

Last season Kasir Maroof hit a century as his Batley side staged a dramatic run chase to win at Moorend – and he settled another thrilling finale at the weekend.

He hit a six and a four from the final two balls from Yousaf Baber as Batley reached their DLS target of 163 in 20 overs to win by seven wickets.

Maroof finished 50 not out and was aided by Umar Farooq who smashed 23 from seven balls, while opener Nikash Khan made 30.

Defeat was hard on Baber, who hit his first century of the season as Cleckheaton made 289-7. Baber struck nine sixes and six fours as he showed the kind of form he produced last year while making 114.

Opener Waleed Akhtar built on his promising start to the campaign with 74. Nasir Totakhil (3-58) was the pick of the Batley bowlers.

East Bierley are now level with Cleckheaton on 40 points after their five-wicket win at Gomersal.

Chasing a DLS target of 117 from 25 overs after rain reduced the length of their innings, East Bierley eased home with eight overs to spare after Umar Abbas hit four sixes and six fours in a breezy 51 not out.

Gomersal were given a good start when they batted first, with openers Richard Wear (64) and Fergus McKenna sharing a stand of 103, but East Bierley hit back through Nisar Ahmad (4-61) and Danny Cross (4-40) as the home side were dismissed for 172.

Undercliffe defeated Baildon by 61 runs to go third. Yasar Ali (4-32) and Zeeshan Qasim (3-31) helped bowl out the Jenny Laners for 104 as they replied to the home side’s 165.

Skipper Bailey Worcester (51) led the way as Umar Zahoor (3-58) and Jamin Barron-Toop (3-31) proved the main threats in the Baildon attack.

Morley looked to be on course for victory after bowling out Sandal for 111 and racing to 40-1, but the weather stopped them in their tracks.

Tinaye Mazonde (4-27), Joe Finnigan (3-27) and Ali Usman (3-31) shared the wickets after Ashley Mackereth (41) looked to have given his side a platform for a bigger total.

Only Sri Lankan Kasun Madushanka (31) of the remaining batsmen made an impression.

Henry Pearson (38no) and Nick Kaye (30no) helped Birstall achieve a DLS target of 122 to record their first win at the expense of a Carlton side who have now lost all three of their matches.

Opener Steve Cooper made 50 in Carlton’s score of 141 but lacked support. Pearson (4-15) and Ryan Gray (3-25) were the men who set up Birstall’s victory.

Mohammad Khan struck 66 as Yeadon scored 177-9 before their match at East Ardsley was abandoned. Josh Wild (3-42) was the best of the home bowlers.

Division Two side Hartshead Moor were the day’s first winners when they defeated Hopton Mills by seven wickets to go top of the table.

Moin Hussain (4-29) and Leo Monteit (4-19) set up the win as Mills were bowled out for 78. Josh Marsden (27no) and Andrew Gale (26no) steered Hartshead Moor to their victory target.

They are one point ahead of Liversedge, who inflicted a first defeat on a Heckmondwike & Carlinghow side that was promoted with them last season.

Despite being bowled out for 125 after Wajid Hussain took 4-40, Liversedge hit back with Mounam Ejaz taking 6-19 and Quadratullah Azizi claiming 3-43, as Heckmondwike & Carlinghow were dismissed for 95 to seal a 30-run win.

Peter Dobson produced match-winning figures of 6-27 as Lightcliffe recorded their second win of the season. His efforts enabled his side to bowl out Northowram Fields for 125, Callum Phillipson making 33.

Lightcliffe were steered towards their target by Jordan Pickles (38no) and Jack Hendy (35) after Sam Gardner (3-48) took early wickets against his old club.

Bowling Old Lane made it two wins from two games as they chased down a Crossflatts score of 177-9 to win by eight wickets. Hisa Ahmed (61no) led the way and gained support from Farhan Hussain (46) and Shahzaib Khan (34).

Tinashe Gomwe (51) and Nathan Bradbury (31) were the main scorers for Crossflatts against a bowling attack led by Ahsan Alishan (4-34).

Crossflatts remain winless, as do Keighley after suffering a four-wicket loss against Wrenthorpe.

Raees Hussain (52) batted well but lacked support as his side were dismissed for 174 with Ben Brown (4-52) and Mustafa Bhatti (3-42) doing much of the damage.

Brown followed up with an unbeaten 32 as he helped his side register their first win. Ijaz Ahmed took 3-26 for Keighley.

Buttershaw St Paul’s will have good reason for believing the weather gods were against them. Set a DLS target of 53 in 20 overs, they were 44-1 after 16 when the rain returned, and the match was abandoned.

Mussawar Shah (5-15) had earlier helped bowl out Hunslet Nelson for 118.

Division Three leaders Spen Victoria were the only winners as they defeated Gildersome & Farnley Hill by 88 runs at Spen Lane.

James Russell secured their victory with 6-46 as the visitors were dismissed for 116 when pursuing a DLS target of 205 from 42 overs.

Peter Jackson (64) and Corey Roebuck (46) were the main contributors to the Spen Victoria score of 221-8, while Jordan Edmondson (4-70) and Sajed Salman (3-37) were Gildersome & Farnley Hill’s best bowlers.

Jamie Robson hit an unbeaten 100 for Scholes with three sixes and five fours against Great Preston.

He was joined in a stand of 117 for the third wicket by Joe Duffy (55) as they helped their side build a total of 250-4.

Great Preston were set a revised target of 227 in 40 overs, but rain brought an end to play with them on 60-1 after 11 overs.

Only 43 overs were possible in the game between Wakefield St Michael’s and East Leeds before play was abandoned. St Michael’s were 139-4 with Shamsullah Dost sat on 58 not out.

James Lord (43) and Chris Bishop-West (31) led the way as Adwalton score 182-6 before their match with Crossbank Methodists was abandoned. Nasir Mahmood was the best of the bowlers with 3-50.
