TONG Park Esholt came agonisingly close to making it two wins from two in Division One of the Aire-Wharfe League.

Promoted at the end of last season, TPE made a great start to life in the top flight, as they thrashed New Rover by 98 runs.

Their batting malfunctioned at home to Collingham & Linton on Saturday though, as they were bowled out for 110.

Will Rhodes was the top scorer for Esholt with just 29, while opener Riley Vernon ground his way to 25 at the top of the order.

But Shahid Mehmood soon got to work with the ball for the Bradford side, his 5-45 reducing the visitors to 70-6.

Collingham still needed eight runs to win when they lost their eighth wicket, but the incoming No.10 hit two fours in five balls to win his side the game.

Saltaire bounced back nicely from a poor opening day home defeat at the hands of North Leeds though, as they won at Bilton by 30 runs.

The 2021 title winners batted first, and racked up a competitive 199-7, largely thanks to the efforts of Arsaam Malik, who hit 77 from 86 balls.

Mohammed Nadim was the star man with the ball, taking 4-50 as Bilton could only reply with 169 all out.

Bolton Villas' first game since promotion to Division Two did not go too well, as they lost by four wickets at home to Beckwithshaw.

Batting first, Villas staggered to 87 all out, with the only men in double figures being openers Imran Patel (21) and Bilal Ali (13) as well as hard-hitting No.11 Naik Zada (17).

Some early inroads into the visitors' batting line-up gave Villas hope, but Beckwithshaw made it over the line with relative ease in the end.

Thackley's opening Division Three game was called off, but they made up for that with a thumping 127-run win at Leeds Modernians on Saturday.

Craig Wiseman took 6-27 for the visitors as Modernians were all out for just 60.

Harden scrambled to victory in their opener at Shadwell, but their poor batting cost them this time around, as they lost by four wickets at home to North Leeds' second XI after being bowled out for 113.

Matthew Hogg took 5-32 in North Leeds' reply, but his efforts proved to be in vain.

Bingley Congs are enjoying a great debut season in the Aire-Wharfe League, making it two wins from two in Division Four after moving over from the Craven League.

Congs racked up 209-6 against Rodley, as opener Danny Pearson hit 46 and captain Neil Copping made 43 not out.

Rodley were 41-0 in reply but collapsed to 83 all out after some sensational bowling from Mo Adil, who took 6-12.
