WEST Bowling might not have a plain sailing ride to the National Conference Division One league title after all.

They had looked imperious in winning their opening five games with ease, against several tricky opponents, but they come up short in their derby against Stanningley at the weekend.

In a thrilling game of rugby league, Stanningley snatched a 38-36 away victory, with a Ben Selby penalty all there was to separate the two sides, after they had scored six converted tries apiece.

Back-rower Jack Milburn is in red-hot form for Bowling, and he crossed the whitewash for a brace.

Liam Darville, Oliver Bartle, Elliott Cousins and Lewis Galtress all grabbed a try apiece for the home side, as Harry Williams landed every one of his conversion attempts.

But hooker Jack Sykes' hat-trick was key to Stanningley's superb win, with Selby's pinpoint kicking helping his side over the line.

Bowling still top the table, but are now level on 10 points with Oulton Raiders, the Leeds-based side having played a game more.

Stanningley are fourth, two points behind Bowling having also played six games like their Bradford rivals.

Drighlington got back to winning ways, avoiding a third straight league defeat in Division Three by downing their hosts Hensingham 22-14.

In Division One of the Yorkshire Men's League, Keighley Albion impressed with a 22-10 home win over Hull Wyke.

Bradford Dudley Hill are just two points off the summit of Division Two after thumping Moldgreen 50-0, but Odsal Sedbergh suffered a bruising 38-14 home defeat against Kirkburton Cougars.

Wyke remain bottom of Division Three after being thumped 52-22 at Underbank Rangers.

Birkenshaw Blue Dogs beat King Cross Park Academy 40-6 in Division 4B, while Brighouse Rangers thumped Moldgreen A 34-6.

But there was less good news for the third Bradford District team in that division, as Keighley Albion Academy lost 26-6 at home to West Craven Warriors.
