ECCLESHILL United saw their Wembley dream die on Saturday, as their fantastic FA Vase run came to an end in the last-16.

Ryan Toulson's side had won six games to reach this stage of the national competition, but they were beaten at the seventh time of asking by Atherstone Town, who beat them 2-0 at the weekend.

No doubt helped by Bradford City being away from home, Eccleshill welcomed a bumper crowd to the Mitton Ground Stadium for this cup clash, 443 supporters turning up to the game.

They were treated to a cagey affair before the break, with both sides knowing full well the magnitude of the game.

There were few chances in the first half, and it took until 64 minutes for the deadlock to be broken.

The ball fell to Atherstone's Tom Smith on the edge of the box after a corner was only half cleared, and he whipped a superb strike into the top corner.

Smith killed Eccleshill off with 10 minutes to go, his composed finish making the score 2-0 to the visitors.

The highlight of the weekend otherwise was a thrilling Northern Counties East League Division One clash between Beverley Town and Campion.

Hosts Town more than held their own against the runaway leaders, racing into a 2-0 lead through Scott Phillips and Oliver Baldwin.

But Marcus Day's penalty halved the deficit before the break, and the Bradford side levelled through Mark Ferguson with 20 minutes to go.

Phillips' late penalty looked to have won the game for Beverley, but Nicky Boshell netted an injury-time equaliser for the visitors, whose lead at the summit has been reduced to 10 points.

In the NCEL premier Division, Albion Sports can surely now forget about their relegation worries, after they moved 12 points clear of danger.

They won 1-0 at home to mid-table Maltby Main, Zak Khan scoring the winner with five minutes to go.

The victory was all the more impressive given Albion had gone down to 10 men early in the second half after Tom Ponter received a second yellow card for dissent.

Thackley's fears of the drop have long since disappeared, as they continued their perfect home record under new joint-managers Tom Greaves and Danny Forrest.

First-half goals from Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Frankie Sinfield were enough to see them to a 2-1 win over high-flying Hemsworth Miners Welfare, a late sin-binning for the visitors helping the hosts over the line.

Silsden's promotion dreams look to be over though, Ellis Hudson's goal on the hour mark not enough to save them from a 3-1 defeat at mid-table Handsworth.

Neighbours Steeton had a much better day in the North West Counties Football League First Division North, winning 3-0 at Daisy Hill to move up to seventh.

The play-offs look to be out of reach, but the Chevrons are hitting form again, a brace from Andy Briggs, one from the spot, and a fine goal from Jordan Townend seeing them to victory, with James Catlow saving a penalty from the hosts.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Brighouse Town's play-off hopes are hanging by a thread after they lost 2-1 at West Yorkshire rivals Pontefract Collieries, despite taking an early lead through Reon Benjamin-Potts.

Guiseley's push for the coveted top five in the NPL Premier Division is looking good, and they destroyed Stafford Rangers 4-0 at Nethermoor on Saturday.

A stunning second-half display saw Lewis Whitham, Courtney Meppen-Walter (penalty), Adam Haw and Jameel Ible all find the net for the hosts.

Liversedge needed a win at home to relegation rivals Nantwich Town, and took an early lead through Ben Atkinson's penalty.

They then fell 2-1 behind, before Nathan Cartman and Kurt Harris gave them a precious 3-2 lead.

But Nantwich delivered a dagger to their hearts with a last-gasp equaliser, with Sedge now 12 points off safety, though they have games in hand on all the teams above them.

Finally, Farsley Celtic moved into the FA Trophy quarter-finals with a 3-2 win at Hungerford Town.

Andy Butler levelled up Hungerford's early opener, before Bobby Johnson gave the visitors the lead from the spot on the hour mark.

The hosts equalised moments later, but Harry Jessop prodded home the Celts' winner with 20 minutes to go.

Farsley face a tricky trip to National League side Gateshead in the last-eight.
