BRADFORD (Park Avenue) had to settle for a point in their Boxing Day derby at home to Farsley Celtic, coming from behind to draw 1-1.

Tom Allan put the visitors deservedly in front just before the break at Horsfall, but a lovely strike from Sam Fielding saw Avenue equalise an hour into the game.

Bradford looked most likely to win after pulling level, but Oli Johnson's last-gasp goal for the hosts was ruled out for offside, as they had to settle for a point.

The result means Avenue are now two points clear of danger in National League North, with Farsley still trapped in the dreaded bottom four.

Luke Parkin had the first chance of the game for the visitors after only five minutes, but his tame effort trickled wide.

Jacob Blyth responded for the home side, but his header flashed high and wide.

Former Avenue loan star Frank Mulhern is one of Farsley's biggest attacking threats these days, and he had his first chance after a quarter of an hour.

But after finding space on the edge of the box and pulling the trigger, he could only fire the ball wide.

Mulhern was then booked for a late challenge, before Blyth missed a brilliant opportunity, blazing the ball over the crossbar from just six yards out.

Farsley striker Mulhern almost saw his cross fly into the net, though it hit the side netting instead, before Parkin volleyed an effort narrowly wide.

Bradford City loanee Kian Scales fashioned the next chance for the Celts with a ball into the box, but Bobby Johnson couldn't steer the cross home.

Parkin finally registered the game's first shot on target five minutes before the break, but his effort from a tight angle was saved by George Sykes-Kenworthy.

Carlton Ubaezuounu's strike from the edge of the box was gathered by the Avenue stopper, but he was beaten moments later.

Lewis Butroid floated in a corner to the back post, and big Farsley defender Tom Allan rose highest to loop a header over the keeper and into the net.

Avenue came out with renewed vigour after the break, Jordan Preston going close twice in the first few minutes of the second half.

And the home side did get the breakthrough on the hour mark, as Fielding, not known for his goalscoring prowess, fired the ball beyond Max Dearnley in the Farsley goal to level.

Parkin was then booked for a foul on Jamie Spencer, before Will Longbottom turned a cross on to the bar for Avenue.

Mulhern had a decent chance blocked in a rare second half attack for the visitors, before Dearnley was on hand to deny Preston from a tight angle.

Allan was booked for Farsley with 10 minutes to go as the game looked to be petering out for a draw.

Johnson almost prevented that, finding the net at the start of injury-time, but the offside flag denied Avenue a dramatic winner.

The two sides are now on a break until New Year's Day, when they face off in the return league fixture at The Citadel.
