THACKLEY came out on top in a thrilling FA Vase first round encounter on Saturday, edging out their hosts Brandon United 3-2.

The visiting Dennyboys made a lightning start, veteran striker Tom Greaves putting them in front after only two minutes, as he headed home an Aiden Chippendale corner.

Thackley dominated the next 25 minutes, with Brandon stopper Arron Skelton saving from Greaves, Chippendale and Amir Berchil.

Luke Wilson then made a save from a Brandon counter-attack, before Kieran Haigh had a goal ruled out for Thackley following a push.

But just before half-time, Simon Poole, only starting the game following an injury in the warm-up to Kieran Suddards, was sent off for a foul on the last man, reducing the visitors to 10 men.

And just seconds after the break, Brandon equalised, as Paul Gardiner crashed the ball home after Thackley only half-cleared a corner.

Despite being a man down, the Dennyboys continued to have the better chances, and had both penalty and red card appeals turned down.

The visitors went back in front with 18 minutes to go, as Brandon allowed Chippendale's corner to bounce in the box, with Haigh putting the loose ball into the bottom corner.

Lewis Waddington then headed just wide for Thackley, but they made the game safe moments later, when Chippendale's free-kick from the right missed everyone and ended up up in the net.

Matthew Moffat poked home a late consolation for the hosts after being played through, but there was no equaliser forthcoming, as 10-man Thackley booked their spot in the second round.

Eccleshill United are also through after an away win, beating Seaham Red Star 2-1.

They also achieved that result with 10 men, after Devonte Newman-Morton was sent off for a second bookable offence just after the hour mark

He had given Eccleshill the lead after 10 minutes, and though his dismissal threatened to undo his earlier hard work, it was the visitors who grabbed a crucial second goal via Luke Sidaway.

Morgan Dart scored with five minutes to go for Seaham, but they could not find an equaliser, and the Bradford side went through instead.

The draw for the second round was made this lunchtime, with Thackley at home to Abbey Hey and Eccleshill away to Wythenshawe Town.

Campion did not make it into the hat for the next round though, bowing out on Saturday after losing 3-1 at home to Bacup Borough, Aiden Day scoring their only goal.

In the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, Silsden were superb in hammering high-flying Handsworth 3-0.

Goals from Lamin Janneh, Luke Brooksbank and Talent Ndlovu, the latter from the spot, put the Bradford District side up to sixth in the table.

Albion Sports were beaten 1-0 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, and a late Tom Ponter sin-binning meant they were down to 10 men for the final few minutes.

In the North West Counties Football League First Division North, in-form Andy Briggs grabbed a hat-trick in Steeton's 4-0 win at home to Runcorn Town.

Mo Farhan Subhani netted the other goal for the Chevrons.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, mid-table Brighouse Town crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Dunston.

But there was better news for Liversedge in the NPL Premier Division, as Jack Carr's first-half goal secured a 1-0 win at Nantwich Town, despite them ending the game with 10-men after Casey Stewart's red card.

That moved them out of the drop zone, while Guiseley sit nine points above them in 12th, Callum Chippendale scoring a penalty in their 1-1 draw at Stafford Rangers.

Finally, Farsley Celtic remain in the National League North drop zone after they were thumped 5-1 at Gloucester City, despite Frank Mulhern giving them an early lead.
