CRAVEN League champions Bingley Congs play their final game of the season on Saturday and will remember two of their own.

A Jack Bailey XI will face an Alan Igglesden XI at Beckfoot Lane (1.30pm) in a 25-overs-per-side game, and former Kent county colleagues of Igglesden will be present.

Bailey, whose family were involved in the formation of the club - sometimes eight of them played - died aged 99 in April 2020.

His dedication to Congs was quite simply exceptional, and even into his nineties he walked down to the ground twice a week on practice nights to sit on the heavy roller and roll the wicket.

Also his Jack’s Gems - prizes bestowed by him at the club’s annual dinner - became the stuff of legend.

Former England Test bowler Igglesden, an affable giant of a man, died aged 57 last November after a long battle against brain cancer.

He coached cricket and rugby at Woodhouse Grove School, where his wife Liz was a teacher. They have a daughter Beth.

Igglesden also played for Congs, and still showed his ability to swing the ball, as well as a textbook cover drive and clip off his legs.

Jack Bailey’s XI will be captained by his great nephew Simon and will feature other current Congs player, while former England bowler Martin McCague and his two sons will be part of the Alan Igglesden XI.

One of the umpires will be another former Kent colleague of Igglesden’s, 1995 Wisden Cricketer of the Year Tim Munton.

The bar will be open and there will also be a barbecue, tombola and raffle, plus a bouncy castle for the younger generation.

The team will be playing for the Jack Bailey Memorial Trophy, as they did when this match was first held last September.
