Joe Colbeck is eyeing a double-figure goal finish to the season.

Colbeck took his tally to eight by smashing the stoppage-time winner against Grimsby - the first time he has scored at home.

And with two games to go, the winger is confident he can notch a couple more to hit his ten-goal target.

Colbeck, whose total includes two from his Darlington loan spell, said: "I've got the confidence now to be able to get off a shot rather than always looking to pass and set somebody else up.

"When I get in those positions, my first thought is to have a go and it's paying off - and hopefully there's still time to get one or two more before the season is finished."

City came from a goal down to snatch their tenth Valley Parade victory. Peter Thorne had levelled after Colbeck harassed Mariners defender Tom Newey into making an awful back pass.

"I chased down a ball that wasn't going anywhere and it was good to get something from it," said Colbeck.

"It was a great finish from Thorney, although I was screaming for him to pass to Eddie Johnson!

"It was a good win and makes a change for a late goal to go for us rather than the other way round. It's a shame that it's too late in the season but hopefully we can take the momentum into the next one.

"We've been on a good run since the Mansfield game and everyone in the changing room is confident of going out and winning games. Hopefully we can cause an upset next week against MK Dons.

"People are saying we've got nowt to play for but there are plenty of lads who are out of contract and we're up against a team that want to win the league, so there will be a lot on it."

Stuart McCall was pleased to see Colbeck get his reward for another non-stop performance.

The City chief said: "Joe is such a team player and works so hard. Sometimes he's the first line of defence to the left winger and he'll do so much in midfield.

"Just prior to the first goal, I told him to play a bit higher up the park and try to get in scoring positions; see what he could do to hurt them.

"And credit to Joe for forcing the error from their defender. At other times that ball would just run out and the full back would be under no pressure.

"It's the old saying about trying to make a bad ball into a good one and he did that.

"The first half looked typically end of season and we needed to show a bit more zest and energy. Thankfully we upped the tempo and the second made up for it."
