THE Spen Valley Club opted for Harden Moor to stage their Yorkshire Centre trials championship trial last Sunday.

The weather favoured the organisers with a bright and dry day in Bronte country.

The downside was a mere 31 starters. It was a good ride out with three longish laps of the heather clad moor.

The old quarry workings were en-route with some rocks steps to grab marks.

Only four rode the championship course and that included Arran Sherwin who is in action every weekend.

Will Tolson 'escaped' from Summer Wine country to win the top class.

His score of just 10 penalties highlighted the dry conditions prevailing,

He just headed Spen's runner Max Chadwick who took a maximum on lap one at section 12.

Anthony Ayrton slacked a couple of dabs on lap one to win the Clubman A class from Ilkley decorator Graham Tales and West Leeds kingpin Nigel Crowther.

At least David Morley matched Tolson and won Clubman B by a dab from Jeff Prior.

For some obscure reason, maybe holiday absence, only eight Falcon members competed, which was very unusual, and they missed out on a cracking trial.

The day before, the splendid scenery of Nidderdale was highlighted at Grimwith Reservoir, where the Wetherby Motor Club staged their sixth club championship trial on the moors, overlooking the vast acres of water filled valley.

Five laps of eight mild sections tested the 37 competitors, who rode three variations of the sections.

Only nine rode the harder route, which Danny Gamble and Elliott Laws cleaned.

Phillip Hammond won the green course class with three marks on his card, which secured him the Over 40 class.

Ian Brogden topped the easy course with a score of three dabs, which was matched by Over 60s Stewart Molloy and Twin Shock jockey John Ellis.

Wetherby battle again tomorrow at Bayliss Gap Farm, Bewerley, commencing at 4pm.
