Stuart McCall saluted the City wide boys after coming out on top in a pulsating Yorkshire derby with Rotherham.

McCall's men bagged their second win in four days with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Valley Parade.

After successive home defeats, the City chief was delighted to see his side turn on the style in front of their own fans - and he singled out the dazzling display from wingers Joe Colbeck and Alex Rhodes.

In-form Colbeck set up two of the goals including one for Rhodes, who was starting his first game for four months.

McCall said: "They followed up a terrific performance at Notts County on Saturday with some excellent wing play. They showed pace, directness and produced good crosses - everything you could ask for.

"Alex has come in and taken his chance and you can see Joe is playing with a lot of confidence. He also puts in an incredible shift for the team and covers so much ground, which a lot of the time goes unseen.

"In an ideal world I always like to play with widemen and it's nice when things come off like that. I want to put smiles on people's faces by playing attacking football.

"If you can't enjoy a game like that then you're not a football fan - but I wanted us to give the fans a little payback for the recent disappointment at home.

"Scoring goals and playing free-flowing football is all you can ask for and we did that. It's easy to say on the back of scoring three goals but the lads out there are exciting players on their day. It's just about doing it consistently."

Omar Daley netted his third goal of the season and there was also a first for the club for transfer-window signing Lee Bullock.

But leading scorer Peter Thorne missed a golden chance to add to his tally after fluffing an open goal in the closing minutes.

"I don't know how Thorney missed that, he just spooned it over, but thankfully it didn't matter in the end," said McCall.

"It was a terrific game and credit to Rotherham as well because they're an excellent side.

"We put in a poor performance against Bury the other week but hopefully the people who were here will be back Saturday and bring a friend along with them."

McCall will ask Fulham if he can keep centre half TJ Moncur for at least another month. The 20-year-old's loan is due to run out on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mark Bower will play his first game in 2008 when he returns for the reserves against Wolves this afternoon.

Bower has not kicked a ball since damaging his knee in the warm-up at Accrington on New Year's Day.
