ECCLESHILL United were knocked off top spot in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division on Saturday, as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Barton Town.

The Eagles had started their campaign with a couple of thrilling home wins, 5-3 over Winterton Rangers and 3-2 against Knaresborough Town, but they came unstuck in their first away league game.

Harrison Coley put Barton in front after just six minutes at the weekend, before their goalkeeper Charlie Dixon made a superb save to deny Eccleshill an equaliser.

And that stop proved crucial, as just moments before the break, Danny Trott capitalised on a defensive mix-up to double the home side's advantage.

In a quiet second half, no doubt in part due to the sweltering heat, Barton saw the game out well, picking up the three points with relative ease.

That defeat drops Eccleshill to second, below North Ferriby, and the top two clash in Bradford tomorrow evening.

There was a Bradford derby on Saturday, and it finished 0-0 between Thackley and Albion Sports.

The Dennyboys probably shaded the contest, with defender Aran Basi having two shots cleared off the line.

But visiting forward Hass Gorji was also guilty of missing a couple of good chances of his own, as Albion posed a threat too.

Silsden were without a game, meaning they temporarily dropped to 13th, but in the division below, Campion are riding high.

They are second on goal difference behind Wakefield AFC, having secured a third win from four games.

The Red and Blacks did not have it easy at Dronfield Town, but they made the breakthrough with 20 minutes to go, Marcus Day scoring the game's only goal to clinch victory for the away side.

Steeton had plenty of chances in their North West Counties League First Division North clash at Darwen, but they could only score once, courtesy of Ethan Hudson-Parker, and conceded late on to lose 2-1.

Bradford City loanee Bobby Pointon opened the scoring for Brighouse Town in their Northern Premier League East Division opener at home to Hebburn Town, but the visitors scored three late goals to ensure a 3-1 win.

Liversedge are in the NPL Premier Division now, and they started with a 1-0 home defeat to Ashton United.

It was an even worse day for freshly-relegated Guiseley, who were thumped 3-0 by Marine.

In National League North, Farsley Celtic picked up their first point of the season, drawing 0-0 at home to Alfreton Town.
