IT has been an incredibly successful opening three years for Eldwick Juniors Lionesses and it is only going to get better.

Formed in 2019, the club has gone from strength to strength and they now welcome over 100 youngsters to their training sessions, aged between 5-13.

One of the club's sides have gone on to win the league and cup in the last two seasons, another of their teams went on to win their league despite entering the competition half way through the campaign and their Lead Coach, Jamie Holland, was recently nominated as West riding county FA Grassroots Coach of the Year.

To coincide with the successes at Eldwick, England's Lionesses are shining on the big stage and face off with Germany in the Euro 2022 final tomorrow, and their achievements have certainly inspired those at Eldwick to chase an even brighter future within the women's game.

Lead Coach, Holland, said: "We had the pleasure of taking 35 players and parents to England's recent fixture at Elland Road against the Netherlands and it was fantastic seeing the support they got that day and it was very inspiring.

"The buzz our girls got from going to that game was massive and I know a few of them have since gone to games at the Euros. It shows what kind of impact they (England team) are having on the nation, and it shows the progress the women's game has made in recent years. It's a really good standard of football and I think what they've done at the Euros is immense.

"It really is going to inspire a new generation of talented women footballers, and I'm sure it will only enhance the chance of more engagement within the sport. You can see it in front of your eyes: the crowds, the atmospheres and the football itself, it's all taken off and it is brilliant to see. At Eldwick, both the players and staff are truly inspired and we are proud to have them as role models for our country."

Holland added: "It will give not just our players confidence, but all women footballers to go out there and try new things because of what the England displays have shown us. There has been so much quality and I'm sure they'll be a few of our players looking to learn a few things from them."

With their recent success, more and more aspiring young footballers are looking to join Eldwick Junior Lionesses and Holland believes it is the perfect place for youngsters to get there footballing journey started/continued.

He said: "We volunteer as coaches at Eldwick but we put a lot of time and effort into each session and game, and we make sure we give our players the best chance to improve. Not only that, it's a very friendly club and we are welcoming and everyone gets on with each other.

"Word has clearly got out and that's why we are seeing the numbers continuously improving."

Holland was named 2022 Coach of the Year for his work done at Eldwick, and discussing his achievement, he said: "It was a real honour to be named as coach of the year and I'm really pleased to have won the award. I think it just highlights the work that is being done at the club to ensure there is more engagement with women's football in the local area.

"I will continue to work hard and I'm really looking forward to see what the future holds for the club and myself."
