HANGING Heaton bagged a maximum 20 points as they climbed out of the bottom two of the Bradford Premier League Premier Division at the expense of Cleckheaton, who they defeated by 61 runs.

Opener Nick Lindley returned to haunt his old club by scoring 65 as he added 111 for the second wicket with Callum Geldart (56) in a Hanging Heaton total of 239-6, which also included useful contributions from Ben Kohler-Cadmore (39) and Adam Patel (34) as Iain Wardlaw (3-54) posed the main threat.

Cleckheaton were sent spinning to 178 by slow bowlers Callum Bethel (4-54) and Callum Geldart (3-44). Toby Booth with 31 proved to be the top scorer for the Moorend side.

The only team below Cleck are Batley, who are still searching for their first win after slipping to a six-wicket defeat at Mount Pleasant against Bradford & Bingley.

Despite the efforts of Yasir Ali (63) and Roheil Hussain (35) their total of 179 was below par.

Jack Hartley (3-47) and Lachlan Doidge (3-35) proved to be the best of the Bradford & Bingley bowlers.

Australian Corey Miller continued his fine form with 51 before Charlie Davy (31no) and Yasir Abbas (30no) saw their side to victory.

At the other end of the table, skipper Brad Schmulian hit an unbeaten 69 and took 4-45 as second-placed Woodlands cruised to a six-wicket win over Bankfoot with 15.4 overs to spare.

They restricted Bankfoot to 164-9 after the home side had won the toss and elected to bat. Hamzah Iqbal top scored with 30 as the Woodlands bowlers kept the run rate in check.

The champions knocked off the runs with ease as Schmulian and hard-hitting Muhammad Bilal (46) ensured their side pocketed another 19 points. Bankfoot’s Afghan bowler Zia Ul Haq Parwani picked up 3-38.

Leaders New Farnley recovered from being reduced to 3-3 to record a 53-run win which ended Pudsey St Lawrence’s six-match winning run.

Charlie Parker removed both openers Aidan Langley and Lee Goddard in the game’s first over and when Adam Waite was trapped lbw to Jordan Moore, New Farnley were in trouble.

They were rescued by a fourth-wicket stand of 147 between the stylish Dan Hodgson (94) and Steve Bullen (67) before spinners Archie Scott (4-59) and Chris Marsden (2-67) sparked a flurry of wickets which checked the scoring rate and saw them bowl out the home side for 216.

St Lawrence were given a good start by Mark Robertshaw and Charlie Best as they put on 70 before Australian paceman Liam Guthrie (4-36) struck three times.

Robertshaw completed a well-deserved half century before falling for 56 as his side slipped to 96-4.

With the run rate climbing and slow bowlers Grant Soames (3-27) and Gurman Randhawa operating, St Lawrence gradually subsided to 163 all out.

New Farnley earned 19 points and remain five points ahead of Woodlands, with the two teams due to meet at Albert Terrace on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Townville claimed the last six Methley wickets for just nine runs as they pulled off a three-run win at Little Church Lane.

Harry Clewett (5-46) and Jack Hughes (3-53) brought about the dramatic collapse which came after Jason Marshall (61) and Eitan Litvin (61) looked to have put Methley on course to ease past the Townville total of 214.

The match saw a number of changes in fortunes. Methley had looked in control when they reduced their visitors to 80-6 with Ben Waite claiming 4-69, but Tom Brook (76no) and Conor Harvey (40) led a fightback which proved decisive to the outcome of the match.

Townville are now in sole possession of third place after Pudsey St Lawrence’s defeat and are 12 points behind leaders New Farnley.

There was a tight finish at Ossett where Farsley secured a four-wicket victory with three balls to spare.

Replying to the home side’s score of 183, they were steered to their target by Joe Pocklington (54), Chris Beech (41) and skipper Matthew Lumb (32no).

Pocklington had a fine all-round game after capturing 4-32 with his left arm spin as the Ossett innings lost momentum after an opening stand of 83 between Nick Connolly and Marcus Walmsley.

Connolly carried his bat through the Ossett innings for an unbeaten 76 but lacked support as his side were dismissed for 183 as Pocklington and Ryan Cooper (3-41) capitalised.

Overseas player Deron Greaves hit a sparkling 144 as Division One leaders Jer Lane recovered from 8-3 to record their seventh maximum 20-point win of the season by 36 runs against Carlton.

Greaves struck five sixes and 21 fours and shared in a crucial stand of 121 with Najjad Ahmed after Jonathan Rudge (6-59) had run through Jer Lane’s top order.

Cosmond Walters (35) was the only other batsman to make a useful contribution in a total of 277.

Kershaski John Lewis, who hit a league record score of 237no on his last visit to Jer Lane, top scored for Carlton as they replied with 241.

Farrouk Alam (39), Jonathan Rudge (39), and Dan White (31) tried to keep their side up with the required rate but spinner Mohammed Jamal (6-76) ensured it was Jer Lane prevailed.

Birstall moved in to second place with an eight-wicket win over second-bottom East Ardsley at Jeffrey Field.

After openers James Van Der Merwe (45) and Muhammad Tariq (41) put on 91 for the first wicket, East Ardsley’s innings stalled against the off spin of Dave McCallum (5-30) and only a brisk unbeaten 50 from Ashley Pearson enabled them to reach 203-7.

Birstall’s innings was launched with an opening stand of 99 by Eric Austin (85) and Andrew Robertson (38).

Their good work was continued by Brandon Silverwood (38no) as victory was achieved with 4.5 overs to spare.

Undercliffe romped to an eight-wicket win, with their batsmen capitalising on the good work their bowlers did in bowling out East Bierley for 189.

Byron Boshoff (81) and Jack McGahan (67no) led their side to victory with 13.5 overs to spare.

Danny Cross (78) was the only East Bierley batsman to make an impression as spinner Jude Roberts picked up 4-65 for Undercliffe.

Gomersal timed their run chase perfectly as they overhauled Morley’s total of 323-5 with three balls remaining.

Skipper Richard Wear led the chase with 104, an innings containing three sixes and 10 fours and was joined in a crucial third wicket stand of 136 with Andy Gorrod (78) after opener Graham Hilton had made 36.

This was the third time that lowly Morley had conceded over 300 runs and defeat was hard on their batsman James McNichol.

The left hander made 116, an innings containing a six and 19 fours, and added 126 for the second wicket with Jack Rowett (70).

Christian Silkstone’s unbeaten 68 gave the innings late impetus but even Morley’s biggest total of the season wasn’t enough to stave off defeat.

Overseas player Yohan Mendis (57no) and skipper Richard Jubb (50no) shared an unbroken third wicket stand of 123 as Pudsey Congs cruised to an eight-wicket win over their bottom-of-the-table rivals Wrenthorpe.

Bailey was supported by Ben Hemsley (42no) and Noah McFadyen (35) as Keighley recovered from 4-3 to chase down the home side’s total of 173.

Baildon were made to pay for a batting collapse which saw them lose their last five wickets for nine runs, as leg spinner James Massheder returned his season’s best figures of 6-29.

The clatter of late wickets meant Baildon did not build on the work of James Ford (47) and Jonny Reynolds (31).

Northowram Fields closed to within eight points of leaders Lightcliffe after scoring a commanding eight-wicket win over them in Division Two.

Former Lightcliffe players Sam Gardner (4-49) and Max Gardner (2-21) ripped through the home side’s top order as they were reduced to 43-6.

The tail wagged for Lightcliffe, and 80 runs were added for the last three wickets with Finlay Hill (44) leading the way.

The Lightcliffe total of 157 was insufficient to trouble in-form Northowram Fields.

Opener Kyle Welsh (71) again led the way while Louis Cockburn (30) and overseas player Harry Hauenstein (30no) ensured victory was achieved with 17 overs to spare.

An unbroken last-wicket stand of 105 between skipper Kristian Shuttleworth (89no) and Michael Carroll (45no) enabled promotion-chasing Sandal to secure a thrilling one-wicket win off the final ball of the match against Crossflatts.

Crossflatts looked poised for victory when Wasim Hussain (5-65) helped them reduce Sandal to 153-9, but Shuttleworth and Carroll had other ideas.

They whittled the target down to seven from the last over bowled by Jim O’Hara. Six runs came from the first five deliveries to tie the scores before Shuttleworth hit the last ball for four to win the game for his side.

Crossflatts must have felt their total of 254 was a challenging one. South African Ruan Van Rooyen (68) and Tineshe Gomwe (42) led the way while Carroll (3-61) was the best of the Sandal bowlers
