LIVERSEDGE have officially been crowned champions of the Northern Premier League East Division.

Barring a miraculous goal difference swing, Sedge were all set to win title ahead of nearest rivals Marske United after the Easter Weekend fixtures.

But they made sure on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Worksop Town.

Ben Atkinson tapped home a low cross from Nicky Walker to open the scoring after 33 minutes, before the same player sealed victory and the championship late on, curling the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the box.

Sedge finished on 93 points, five clear of second-placed Marske, and will be plying their trade in the NPL Premier Division this season.

A strong end to the season saw Brighouse Town finish seventh in the same division, two places and nine point outside of the play-offs.

They lost 3-1 in their last game though, against fourth-placed Stockton Town.

Laurence Sorhaindo scored a consolation penalty for Vill Powell's side midway through the second half.

Meanwhile, Eccleshill United will be travelling to Bedford to play against Kempston Rovers in their promotion play-off this Saturday.

If the Eagles win, they will gain promotion to Step 4 in the National League System, the same level as Brighouse.

Campion face another season in Step 6, with joint-managers James Bicknell and Lee Ashforth staying on to manage the club for the 2022/23 campaign at least.
