UMPIRES are being sought for the newly-formed West Yorkshire Women’s and Girls’ League.

Matches will be of both the hardball and softball variety, and clubs involved are Crossflatts, Pudsey St Lawrence, Menston, Lightcliffe, St Chads and Holme Valley (who play at Holmfirth).

A total of 30 games will be played across a total of 10 weeks over the season in the Yorkshire Cricket Board-backed initiative, and the ideal would therefore be to have two umpires at each match.

League organiser Phil Sharples said: “I have accessed support from the Halifax League for the games at Crossflatts and Lightcliffe, and it could mean that umpires would only have to stand in one game in order to spread the burden.”

Games are interspersed throughout the summer on Sundays, with 1pm starts, beginning on May 1 and finishing on September 11.

Women’s matches could be 35 or 40 overs per innings, and umpires would be paid £40.

Interested officials are asked to get in touch with Sharples on 07535 746529 or at Halifaxjcl@outlook.com by April 29.
