JAMIE Walker revealed he would be open to a potential City move as he targeted a big end to the season.

The on-loan Scot is eyeing a start in tomorrow’s game at Hartlepool after his half-hour comeback in the Forest Green win.

The Bantams are still a distant 15th in the table and a top-seven finish remains a remote dream.

But with his current Hearts deal up in the summer, Walker views the 10-match run-in as crucial for his own future just as much as the club’s.

It is a shop window for the attacker – with the prospect of a permanent stay at Valley Parade certainly not out of the question.

Walker said: “It’s up to me to do well and see where it takes me.

“I’d love to stay here, it’s a big football club with a massive fanbase. They have travelled in their numbers even when we weren’t doing great.

“If the opportunity comes, then it will be one that I’m open to.

“The reason I came here was to play football games. My contract is up at the end of the season and it’s up to me to do well in these last 10 games and see what happens.”

Walker has struck up an immediate bond with the Bantams faithful – something that has meant a lot to him since his January arrival.

“It’s great,” he added. “As a footballer, it’s always nicer if the fans take to you.

“It can be a lonely place at times if they don’t, so that’s a positive for me.

“The fans have been fantastic with me ever since I came here on social media and stuff like that.

“Hopefully I can give them a few more nice moments and some goals between now and the end of the season.”

Walker is eager to impress Mark Hughes after the change of manager while he was side-lined with a hamstring injury.

He limped off in Derek Adams’ final game against Exeter and was a spectator when the big-name replacement was unveiled.

“It’s a fresh start for everyone as you can see with Gareth Evans and Lavs (Caolan Lavery) who haven’t played much under the old manager.

“He brought me to the club so at first it wasn’t ideal because I obviously didn’t know who was going to come in.

“But it’s part of football and I’ve been in that position before, so I knew how to deal with it.

“It’s always tough when you’re injured. I saw the boys going out on the training pitch with the new gaffer and it was an opportunity for them to show what they can do, while I’m in the physio room.

“But I’m back on the grass now and hopefully can show the gaffer what I can bring to the team.”

Plenty in City’s squad are in the same boat as Walker with their own situation to play for beyond this season. That should keep everyone on their toes even with the 14-point gap to seventh spot.

Walker said: “A lot of boys are in the same position as me, they are playing for the football club and playing for themselves.

“They need to do well to get a contract here or somewhere else for next season. There’s a lot of pressure and the gaffer will be looking to see who he wants to keep in his squad.

“If we have a great end to the season, we can take that into next year. That’s what we’re looking to do.

“The play-off places are a long way off but I don’t think we’ll give up on them until it’s mathematically impossible.

“We’ll keep trying to win football matches and hopefully work our way up the table.”
