THREE tasty derbies stand out in the first-round draw for the Waddilove Cup next season.

One is the all-Division Three clash between Thackley and Bolton Villas, while another is that between Aire-Wharfe League champions Saltaire and Tong Park Esholt.

However, the tie of the round is between Rawdon and Burley, the last two winners of the Waddilove Cup, who will meet at Larkfield Road in a very tasty tie on Sunday, May 8.

Run kings Rawdon made 339-7 in this year’s final of the Aire-Wharfe League’s blue-riband competition at Kirkstall, runners-up Pool, replying with a very creditable 296-9.

Burley triumphed in 2019, but lost to Rawdon in a quarter-final this year, making only 123 in reply to the home side’s 254-9.

While Rawdon and Burley were third and fourth respectively in Division One in 2021, Pool may only have finished fifth in Division Two, but are arguably the most consistent cup team in the league.

They have reached at least the quarter-finals for the past five seasons that the Waddilove has been held and start their 2021 campaign at home to Bilton, who were runners-up in 2017.

Division Four champions Menston are involved in the only preliminary-round tie on Sunday, April 24, facing Olicanian, who were relegated to Division Two this season, with the winners facing a trip to 2017 cup winners Beckwithshaw.

In other first-round ties, Guiseley, relegated to Division Three, are at Steeton and 2018 winners Otley are at Adel, with 2021 Division Two runners-up Horsforth Hall Park travelling to Skipton.

Addingham, who like Pool punch above their weight in the cup, visit Kirkstall, while Horsforth host Old Leodiensian.

Calverley are at St Chads, while Division Three champions Harden host Green Lane.

Ilkley, semi-finalists in 2017, are at Leeds Modernians.
