WITH nine-man Liversedge bowing out of the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage after a 2-0 loss to Runcorn Linnets, adding to earlier defeats in the competition for Eccleshill United, Campion, Thackley, Silsden, Brighouse Town and Albion Sports, the attention now turns to some of our bigger sides.

The draw for the second qualifying round has been made, and it throws up a tricky tie for Bradford (Park Avenue).

They will be visiting fellow National League North side Gateshead, who are one of the favourites for promotion this season.

Avenue will be hoping to do a better job than they did last year in the FA Cup, bowing out at the second qualifying round stage with a 3-1 home defeat to Spennymoor Town.

They haven't even won a game in the competition since the 2018-19 season, when they won 1-0 at Darlington.

But they were soon out, losing a thriller 4-2 to Altrincham in the third qualifying round.

Guiseley have a more favourable second qualifying round tie, as they have been drawn away at Northern Premier League Division One West side Colne.

The Lions had a good run in last year's competition, beating Atherton Collieries 4-0 and Matlock Town 2-0, before bowing out in the fourth qualifying round with a 2-1 defeat at FC United of Manchester.

City of Liverpool are in the same division as Colne, and they have been drawn against a West Yorkshire National League North side themselves in Farsley Celtic.
