BRADFORD (Park Avenue) have brought in a new goalkeeper.

Johnny Saltmer, formerly known as Trialist A, has officially joined the ranks after he was released by their fellow National League North Club Darlington in May.

Saltmer, like fellow new recruit Lucas Odunston, began his career in Hull City's academy, and was also part of the Barrow squad that won promotion to the Football League in 2020.

But Saltmer did not have the best of official debuts on Friday night against Scarborough Athletic, with Avenue beaten 3-0 at Horsfall.

Nathan Cartman opened the scoring with a penalty, before Kieran Weledji doubled the visitors' lead with a fierce strike from inside the area after half an hour.

Rob Guilfoyle had a goal disallowed for Avenue on the hour mark, but that was as close as the home side went to hitting back.

Instead, Saltmer gifted Scarborough possession with 10 minutes left, and they took advantage, netting from long range through James Cadman.
