MARK Arthur has confirmed that Yorkshire are hoping to bring Lancashire to Scarborough in next year’s County Championship, admitting: “Third time lucky!”

A Roses Championship game at North Marine Road has been scheduled in each of the last two summers before being cancelled.

The first in 2020 came as a result of the UK wide coronavirus lockdown and the second, earlier this month, as a result of ongoing restrictions, with the game moved to Emerald Headingley.

Yorkshire have since returned to Scarborough over the last week for a National Counties 50-over friendly and the opening Royal London Cup fixture against Surrey.

Tomorrow will also see the White Rose welcome Northamptonshire for another RL50 fixture.

On the prospect of the Roses Championship game for next year, Yorkshire chief executive Arthur said: “We will be making that request.

“We’re certainly hoping for that. Lancashire are very keen to come here.

“We should be playing them whatever the Championship structure looks like.

“We expect it to be Conferences again next year, but we don’t know. If that’s the case, there will be local pairings, and we would be with Lancashire.

“If it’s two divisions, we would both be in Division One.

“The one thing we have got to wait and see is where the slots come for the Championship games in the summer and what would make Scarborough viable for that fixture.”

Yorkshire will be playing a Championship game at Scarborough later this summer when they welcome Somerset to the magical East Coast venue, starting on Sunday, September 5.
