SIR - Further to earlier comments made regarding England reaching the final of the European Championship; this splendid achievement and their first major final for 55 years had not been without controversy.
The taking of the knee has been divisive, considered by many as overtly political and inconsistent with the FA's policy of not permitting political expressions to be manifested during matches. Yet this gesture was continually made by the England players and not necessarily of their choosing.
It is regrettable that a decision had been taken to politicise an event which should only have been remembered for how near football came to "coming home".
