WOODLANDS made it three wins from three games in the Bradford League Premier Division at the weekend by beating Cleckheaton by 109 runs and are now second, three points behind New Farnley.

Openers Sam Frankland (62) and Tim Jackson (59) put on 105 for the first wicket as Woodlands made 265-7. Kiwi Brad Schmulian was again in good form with 63 while wicketkeeper Greg Finn scored 48.

Cleckheaton’s Ethan Lee (53) and Harvey Booth (36) were their top scorers as they made 156 in reply. Elliot Richardson (4-36) and Schmulian (3-33) were the best of the Woodlands bowlers.

Woodlands’ win moved them above the previously unbeaten Hanging Heaton, who fell to a shock three-run defeat at Morley in a thriller.

Sri Lankan Kavindu Kulasekara will not forget his home debut in a hurry after producing the best Premier Division bowling performance of the season.

The spin bowler took 8-34 at Scatcherd Lane as the visitors were bowled out for 99 to give Morley their first victory of the campaign.

Few people would have bet on a Morley win when they opted to bat first and slumped to 12-5.

Even their eventual total of 102 did not seem likely to pose a serious challenge to Hanging Heaton’s powerful batting line up, but that man Kulasekara had other ideas as he brought about a remarkable transformation in his side’s fortunes.

Hanging Heaton’s batting woes wrecked the earlier good work of James Byrne (3-30) and Josh Wheatley (3-8).

Conor Harvey was another bowler in form. He took 7-54 as Bradford & Bingley were bowled out for 89 after opting to bat first. Townville had little trouble cruising to an eight-wicket win.

Mark Robertshaw hit a superb 156 as Pudsey St Lawrence hit the season’s highest score of 360-5 on their way to a crushing 242-run win.

Robertshaw hit three sixes and 22 fours as the Wrenthorpe bowlers took a battering at Tofts Road. He was joined in a third wicket stand of 100 by Archie Scott (46), while Harry Cullingford (42) and Chris Marsden (40) also took advantage of the fine batting conditions on offer.

Wrenthorpe struggled from the start of their reply and were bowled out for 118, with leg spinner Scott taking 4-49.

Methley’s 16-year-old opener Alex Cree hit his second successive century as they made 321-6 on their way to a 207-run win over Batley.

Cree hit three sixes and 13 fours as he showed once again what a talented batsman he is.

Former Batley player Gharib Razak (53) shared an opening stand of 112 with Cree, while Jason Marshall (53) and Jordan Laban (39) ensured there was no respite for the Batley bowlers.

Spinner James Logan took 4-40 as Batley were bowled out for 114.

Finally, New Farnley are looking good at the summit after their nine-wicket win over Farsley.

Adam Waite was unbeaten on 61 as they overhauled a Farsley score of 147 to bag 20 points.

New Farnley skipper Lee Goddard, who had scored centuries in the opening two games of the season, had made 32 when he retired after aggravating his hamstring injury.

Opener Chris Beech (64) was the only Farsley batsman to make an impression as they were dismissed for 147 after opting to bat first.

Opening bowler Alex Lilley posed the main threat with 4-16 while spinner Grant Soames took 3-41 as the Farsley innings subsided.

Gomersal are four points clear at the top of Division One after their comfortable six wicket win over Keighley.

Opener Graham Hilton hit an unbeaten 60 and Andy Gorrod (45) as they chased down the Keighley total of 163. Spinner Chris Greenwood (4-48) was the pick of the Gomersal bowlers.

Birstall and East Bierley are joint second on 55 points after both recorded their third wins of the season. Birstall defeated Ossett by 11 runs while East Bierley squeezed home by two wickets at Lightcliffe.

Birstall continued their good form with opener Josh Haynes (69) and Benedict Gundry (66) hitting half centuries in a total of 232-8 against previously unbeaten Ossett. Max Chappell (3-45) and Dan Busfield (3-66) were the pick of the bowlers.

Rain interrupted the Ossett innings and gave them a Duckworth Lewis Stern target of 230 from 42 overs.

James Keen (46) and Marcus Walmsley (39) tried to keep their side up with the rate but after they departed, Juned Delair (5-8) and Haynes (4-56) cashed in to bowl out Ossett for 219.

That man Ben Walter proved to be a match winner again for East Bierley. After taking 3-29 in helping his side bowl out Lightcliffe for 155, he made a crucial 52 to ensure they won a tight contest.

Alex Stead (37) top scored for Lightcliffe while Jack Hendy (4-62) was the pick of their bowlers.

An unbeaten century from skipper Scott Etherington earned Undercliffe their first win of the season as they defeated Bankfoot by seven wickets.

Etherington struck four sixes and 17 fours as he led the successful pursuit of Bankfoot’s 203-9, a total that owed much to the determined efforts of Bankfoot's captain James Lee, who batted throughout his side's innings for a fine 104 not out.

An unbeaten 55 from Alex Kennedy, plus useful contributions from Abbishek Paradkar (37), James Hardcastle (34) and Nick Ward (31), helped Hartshead Moor to 219-5 as they beat Carlton by 117 runs.

Carlton lost both their openers to ducks with only two runs on the board and never recovered as they were dismissed for 102 to lose by 117 runs. Skipper Dave McCallum (4-12) and Nick Johnson (3-19) were the key bowlers.

Pudsey Congs recorded their first win when they beat Baildon by two wickets.

Skipper Richard Jubb (33) and Jacob Slator (30) helped them overhaul a Baildon total of 139 in which Simon Bailey scored 40 and Jack Hainsworth hit 31.

Ryan Heptinstall picked up 4-31 for Congs, while Dwayne Heke (3-17) was the pick of the home bowlers.

Ibrar Younis thrashed an unbeaten 125 from just 68 balls as Division Two leaders Jer Lane defeated Yeadon by 64 runs.

Coming in at number eight with his side 129-6, Younis transformed his side’s innings by hitting nine sixes and 13 fours.

Younis was joined in a seventh wicket stand of 156 by Amjid Khan (56), as Jer Lane posted a daunting 330-7, despite the efforts of Andrew Robinson (5-90).

Despite half centuries from Gulsheraz Ahmed (79) and Robinson (58no), Yeadon could only reach 266-8.

Cosmond Walters took 3-50 for Jer Lane who have 59 points and lead Northowram Fields by two.

Sam Foster took 6-29 as Northowram Fields bowled out Hopton Mills for 114 to wrap up a 60-run victory.

Batting first, Northowram were in trouble at 6-2 before Kyle Welsh (39), Adam Wainwright (35) and John Lister (33) helped them to 174, Umar Abbas was again in the wickets with 3-40 for Mills.

A fifth wicket stand of 146 between Gary Jennings (87no) and Peter Bowles (74) enabled third-placed East Ardsley to build on the 102 runs that openers Josh Wild (57) and Richard Vigars (44) put on to post a score of 311-6 in their 149-run win over Scholes.

Omar Hussain (3-53) was the pick of the Scholes bowlers while Shahid Rehman was their top scorer with 36.

Sandal’s unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Buttershaw St Paul’s.

The highlight for the Wakefield team was an unbeaten eighth wicket stand of 85 between skipper Kristian Shuttleworth (60no) and Amai Ganjam (35no).

That enabled them to post a total of 177-7, but Buttershaw St Paul’s chased it down.

Wakefield St Michael’s registered their second win when they defeated Bowling Old Lane by five wickets.

Half centuries from Mark Atkinson (53) and Ashley Hale (53no) helped them to 208-5 before bowling out Old Lane for 102, with Cavan Connolly (4-36) and Zaeem Zulfqar (3-13) leading the way.

Patrick Hinchcliffe took 5-48 as Hunslet Nelson defeated Spen Victoria by six runs in a rain-affected game.

His efforts helped dismiss the visitors, who had a revised target of 160 from 45 overs, for 153. Abbas Khan (44) and Bilal Ejaz (39) were the pick of the Spen batsman.

The Nelson score of 183-9, comfortably their best of the season, owed much to skipper Will Stiff’s knock of 57. Abid Awain (4-52) and Mohammad Dar (3-37) were Spen’s best bowlers.

Not content with having hit the league’s highest individual score of 172 in the first game of the season, Brighouse all rounder Parvaise Khan now has the top bowling figures too.

Khan took 8-26 as his side bowled out Windhill & Daisy Hill for 71 on their way to a 10-wicket win which took them to the top of Division Three.

And if taking wickets wasn’t enough, Khan was unbeaten on 63 as Brighouse knocked off the runs in just 9.2 overs.

The only bright spot for Windhill & Daisy Hill on a day when seven of their batsmen got ducks was opener Tabassum Bhatti’s knock of 43.

Vying with Khan for the division’s performer of the day was East Leeds’ Ben Wilkinson.

He made an unbeaten 46 and shared in an unbroken last-wicket stand with Pravin Chahande of 61, which earned his side a one-wicket win over Liversedge.

At 56-9, the hopes of second-placed East Leeds extending their unbeaten start to the season seemed unlikely.

The modest Liversedge score of 112 looked likely to be enough after Reuben Shuttleworth took 6-65, but Wilkinson had other ideas as he put the bowlers to the sword.

He hit three sixes and the last of his big hits sealed victory at the end of an over from Will Atkin that yielded 26 runs.

The unfortunate Atkin had earlier top scored with 32 for Liversedge, who found the wily James Watling (4-23) posing the main threat.

Adwalton dropped from first to third after Rodley ended their unbeaten run and secured their first win of the season.

Rob Young (63), Dan Turbitt (50) and Callum Postle (34) helped Rodley to a total of 273-7.

Adwalton tried hard to chase down the target but fell 20 runs short on 253 all out. Umar Bashir (51), Matt Donohoe (48) and Aidan England (36) were their top scorers.

Altofts had a day to forget as they were skittled out for 50 and suffered a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Great Preston.

Lee Russell (5-13) and Jacob Wright (4-37) sliced through the brittle Altofts batting before Dan Ranasinghe (33no) guided them to victory.

Umar Qureshi hit a superb 132 as Heckmondwike & Carlinghow defeated Crossbank Methodists on a comparison of scores after rain interrupted their game.

Eleven sixes and 13 fours flowed from Qureshi’s bat while Matthew Crowther’s 52 helped Heckmondwike & Carlinghow to 289-8.

James Lord made 55, Rizwan Abid (43) and Mohammad Hassan (34) in a Crossbank Methodists score of 172-7 in 41.2 overs.

Another game to be decided on a comparison of scores was Crossflatts’ visit to Gildersome & Farnley Hill.

The away side took the honours by 10 runs after Gildersome & Farnley Hill made 195-7 in 42 overs. Crossflatts had been 205-9 at the same stage of their innings on their way to an eventual 221.

Joe Greenwood led the way with 87 for Crossflatts while Tom Lindsay made 51 for Gildersome & Farnley Hill after earlier taking 4-52.
