CITY may not have a promotion to celebrate but they can lay claim to the 2021 Mitre Goal of the Season.
Lee Novak won the prestigious prize at last night’s EFL awards for his spectacular overhead kick at Grimsby before Christmas.
Taking Callum Cooke’s cross on his chest, the striker flung himself backwards while whipping a looping volley over Mariners keeper James McKeown into the net.
Novak’s stunning effort in City’s 2-1 win earned him the nod in a shortlist that also contained Barnsley’s Alex Mowatt, Frazier Campbell of Huddersfield, Sunderland’s Grant Leadbitter and Jamal Lowe at Swansea.
