THE Yorkshire Trophy will go ahead from May 17-31 with Brighouse Town hosting the final.

Steeton and Silsden both pulled out of the tournament for financial reasons, however the tournament will go ahead as planned, with the bonus of fans returning.

Each team will play each other once, with the top 2 sides facing off at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium on May 31.

The tournament's fixtures have been released and Brighouse have confirmed, they'll be allowed up to 675 spectators for each home game, final included.

Favourites Brighouse, come up against Penistone Church FC in the first fixture of the tournament, while Liversedge face Golcar United.

Discussing the tournament, Town manager Vill Powell, said: "I'm looking forward to it. It was hard work getting it off the ground but now it's sorted, we can push on and make plans for it.

"It's somewhat salvaging a year which has been despicable for everybody, and certainly for football it’s been tough."

Going into the tournament, Powell believes it essential for salvaging the season.

"Yes, it's a friendly tournament, yes, we'll be the favourites, but most importantly it will help to salvage the season.

"Don't underestimate the other three sides. They're all good sides and will bring something to the table, but of course I want to win it. It's in my nature. If I were playing tiddlywinks, I'd want to win."

Fans will be able to watch Town for the first time since lockdown restrictions were lifted and Powell believes it's massive for the game moving forward.

"It's huge. For a lot of non-league fans, football's their lives. Certainly, for the social aspect of it, on a Saturday or Tuesday, travelling to games and it's a massive part of quite a lot of our fans' lives.

"It's massive from a mental point of view for them. We are also delighted to have them back, because they support us and push us on, so it's big for us too."
