GARY Ballance has been ruled out of Yorkshire’s County Championship opener against Glamorgan at Emerald Headingley tomorrow with concussion.
The White Rose county say their key batsman was the subject of a “freak accident in training”.
It is hoped his first appearance since the end of 2019 will now come against Kent at Canterbury next week.
The left-hander didn’t feature for Yorkshire at all in 2020 after he announced he would be taking a step back from cricket for “personal reasons”.
Yorkshire have further injuries to their squad as all-rounder Matthew Waite is out with a side strain, while Jordan Thompson is currently still building up fitness following a winter calf tear.
It is hoped he will play within the next fortnight.
However, Yorkshire do have England skipper Joe Root and off spinner Dom Bess included in their squad.
Both are looking to spend time within the Yorkshire set-up before leaving to feature in England’s summer schedule of Test Matches against New Zealand and India.
Yorkshire squad v Glamorgan: Patterson (captain), Bess, Brook, Coad, Fisher, Kohler-Cadmore, Loten, Lyth, Olivier, Root, Tattersall (wicketkeeper), Willey.
