Yorkshire extend seven deals including South Africa quick

Wicketkeeper batsman Jonny Tattersall, fresh off a sparkling 111 in the team's friendly draw with Durham MCC Universities over the Bank Holiday Weekend, is one of those.

Harry Brook, Ben Coad, Matthew Fisher, Will Fraine, Tom Loten and Duanne Olivier are the others, with all seven signing new deals to keep them at Emerald Headingley beyond this season.

Tattersall, 26, has signed a contract extension to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2023.

The Harrogate-born gloveman, who plays in all formats for the White Rose, said: “It’s really great to commit my future to Yorkshire for the next couple of years. It’s good to get these things over the line and it’s one less thing to have to worry about.

“To get it done before the season is great. For the club and staff to think that I’m a really key and important part of this squad going forward is great.

“There are exciting times ahead for the club. We’ve got a really good squad developing so hopefully it’s going to be a couple of successful years ahead.”

Yorkshire's director of cricket, Martyn Moxon, said: “Jonny’s done extremely well, to take the gloves in the way he did. His work ethic is fantastic.

“He will get better and better, both as a batsman and a wicketkeeper. We wanted to show our faith in him and the more he plays, the better he is going to get.

“We’ve identified three or four lads who we feel have got captaincy capabilities and Jonny is one of them.

“The last three-day friendly against Durham MCCU was an excellent opportunity to give Jonny some experience.”

Twenty-two-year-old Brook has signed a new contract to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2024.

The explosive batsman, who plays in all formats, said: “I’m really pleased to have signed a contract extension until 2024. Hopefully I can really contribute to the team this year and we can push for trophies.

“It’s a real honour to play for the county that I’ve represented from an early age and I believe we have got a strong squad that can really challenge for silverware.”

Moxon said: “He has definitely matured as both a player and person in the last few years and I think last season we saw a development.

“He’s had a really good winter’s work and hopefully this season can be the real breakthrough season for him.

“We think Harry’s maiden T20 50 at the end of last summer (against Derbyshire), chasing down the total in the manner that he did alongside Joe Root, was a really big moment for him.

“We hope that he can continue in that way and that innings turns out to have been a lightbulb moment for him.”

Coad, who is 27, has signed a new contract to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2023.

The skilful seam bowler, who has taken 157 first-class wickets to date, said: “It’s great to commit my future to the club. I’ve loved every minute of playing for Yorkshire and can’t wait to play my part in many more games.

“I’m very excited to see what this group of players can achieve in the next few years and it’s going to be great to be a part of it.”

Moxon said: “He’s had tremendous success in County Championship cricket over the last few years and is one of the best bowlers in that format of the game. I’m delighted that we’ve secured his signature for the next three seasons.

“He’s got ambition to play for England, quite rightly so. All he can do is keep taking wickets and if he continues the form he’s shown over the last few years, he can’t be ignored.”

Twenty-three-year-old Fisher has signed a new contract to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2024.

The all-rounder, who debuted for Yorkshire at the age of 15, said: “It’s great to have signed a new contract. I feel our squad is really strong and I want to contribute as much as I can to winning games, which in turn can lead to winning trophies.

“It’s always been an honour playing for Yorkshire and I’m so glad that I can do so for another few years at least.”

Moxon said: “We see a bright future for Matthew.

“Obviously he’s had his injury challenges over the last few years which has meant he’s had a bit of a stop-start career so far but he’s a fantastic talent and we wanted to ensure that he is with us for the foreseeable future.

“He’s an integral part of the squad going forward.

“He’s got the capabilities to be a genuine all-rounder in all formats, a three-dimensional cricketer.”

Fraine, 24, has signed a new contract to keep him at Yorkshire until October 2023.

The dynamic batsman, who scored a maiden first-class century at Scarborough in 2019, said: “I feel very honoured and thrilled to be extending my stay with Yorkshire.

“It was always my dream to play for Yorkshire as a boy so the club is very close to my heart and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to represent my home county.

“The squad is in an amazing place. We are all so hungry for success and believe we have the lads capable of challenging for silverware.

“I can’t wait to personally develop my game further in all formats to hopefully be part of this strong group for years to come.

“I hope to repay the faith shown in me by the club and coaches who have supported me since day one. I’m very excited for this next chapter at Headingley.”

Moxon said: “Will has shown his capabilities in both red and white-ball cricket. We wanted to acknowledge his potential going forward.

“He has got huge potential and we wanted to ensure he has peace of mind, so he can relax, enjoy his cricket and keep developing. He’s a bright prospect for the future.

“He’s very keen to learn and having people like Joe Root around at various times, along with our other senior players, will be really beneficial.”

Loten, who is 22, has signed a new contract to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2022.

The all-rounder, who made a fifty on his first-class debut in 2019, said: “‘I’m delighted to have signed for next season and to be part of a strong squad. I’ll be working hard to continue to develop my game and push for a spot in the first team.”

Moxon said: “In the second team, Tom’s scored runs and he’s been very consistent for them. We’ve identified him as someone with huge potential for the future.

“He’s been working hard on his bowling this winter and that’s improving so he could become another genuine all-rounder.

“He’s shown his versatility this pre-season, batting at the top of the order as well as batting in the middle order, so it’s good to have that flexibility.”

South African fast bowler Olivier, 28, has signed a contract extension to keep him at Yorkshire until at least October 2022.

The quick, who is one of the club’s overseas players, said: “I’m delighted to have signed a contract extension with Yorkshire. Since joining the club I’ve been made to feel very welcome and am looking forward to playing my part in this side.

“I’ve enjoyed my time in England so far and believe there’s a lot more to come from me in the next few years. We have a really strong squad who I believe can challenge for silverware and I’m really excited to be a part of this.”

Moxon said: “Duanne made a big decision to come over here and we wanted to reward his commitment to us with another year on his contract now.

“I think we have still got the best to see from him. He gives us pace and he’s shown, particularly in his first season, his capabilities. I think the more that he plays over here, the better he is going to get.

“We wanted to show our faith in him and hopefully it will give him peace of mind that we are backing him.

“The pace that Duanne offers gives us something different to our other bowlers which is vital, particularly on pitches that are not seamer friendly.”
