WIBSEY’S Mason Greenwood has dropped out of England’s U21 squad for the European U21 championships, after suffering an injury.

The 19-year-old forward from Bradford has been ruled out of this months U21 group games, after nursing a knock following Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Leicester.

The Manchester United hotshot will be replaced by Norwich attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell, who will be hoping to add to his previous three caps for the Young Lions.

Boothroyd's side got their Group D campaign under way against Switzerland in Koper yesterday, before matches against Portugal on Sunday and Croatia on March 31.

Unfortunately for Boothroyd’s side, they were edged out 1-0 by the Swiss, Dan Ndoye scoring a 77th minute winner to condemn England to defeat at the tournament’s curtain-raiser.

The tournament has been split into two parts amid the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure it does not clash with the postponed senior Euros, which were rearranged for this year from last summer.

The knockout phase will be held in May and June.
