CALLUM Cooke faces up to six weeks out for City.

The midfielder’s scan confirmed he has injured a hip muscle.

Cooke suffered the injury ahead of the Newport game at Cardiff last week and joint boss Conor Sellars confirmed the news this afternoon.

He said: “Cookey is going to be out for four to six weeks. He’s been a pivotal part of this team’s form of late.

“He’s disappointed. Nobody likes to be injured and Cookey has found himself in good form that he wanted to continue.

“Setbacks happen in football and he’s a good character. I’m sure he’ll react and come back positive.

“We have a good squad and people have to come in and make an impact.

Before missing the last two defeats, Cooke had started 14 of the previous 15 games in which Mark Trueman and Sellars have been in charge.

Sellars also confirmed that Bryce Hosannah and Reece Staunton have both suffered frustrating delays in their lengthy recovery from injuries.

He added: “We’ve been given timescales but they both keep having little setbacks which keeps them out for another week or so.

“It’s so important with those types of injuries that you prevent them happening again. It can be quite detrimental to their development as young players.

“Their safety and welfare are paramount in our thinking. We’ve got to make sure they are fully fit and ready when they do come back.”
