BULLS floundered once again yesterday, staggering to an underwhelming 22-18 win over Keighley in the Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy.

They started brightly, but faded badly, and were outscored in the final 70 minutes by their League One opponents.

MAN OF THE MATCH

One of the few positives for Bulls in pre-season has been Danny Brough. He excelled once more, especially in the first half, with a pair of 40-20s and a lovely try of his own. He also set up Anthony Walker for the decisive try.

Tom Doyle was the only player to run Brough close, as he impressed with a try and some strong attacking runs.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Bulls capped off that scintillating first 10 minutes with a fine try from Brough.

There didn't look to be too much on, but a superb pirouette saw him find space to go over for the score, as he belied his 38 years with a sumptuous piece of skill and footwork.

MOAN OF THE MATCH

Bulls were not at the races for most of the contest.

They looked lethargic and lacking in ideas and ultimately, scraped a win against a League One side who were without a couple of their best players in Jake Webster (paternity leave) and Scott Murrell (calf).

TACTICS The interest came in the backs. Winger Matty Dawson-Jones was given a well-earned rest after a fine performance against Swinton, and with Jordan Lilley dropped ahead of his impending ban and Rhys Evans returning from injury, John Kear tinkered a little.

Joe Brown was surprisingly listed at stand-off, but Kear only really played with Brough in the halves, with players running off him, until Billy Jowitt and Lilley came on later on.

Brown actually spent the game at full-back or on the wing.

Evans joined Ross Oakes in the centre, while Reece Hamlett moved out of there to spend some time on the wing.
