CITY’S under-18s earned a magnificent 1-0 victory at Grimsby in the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division on Saturday.

Connor Morris’ second-half goal was enough for the young Bantams to gain all three points at Cheapside.

The shock win means rock-bottom City move just three points behind nearest rivals Huddersfield, and it ended Grimsby’s unbeaten record in the league (seven wins and three draws).

The first opportunity of this contest came when the ball fell to City’s Bobby Pointon on the edge of the 18-yard box, however, his left-footed effort was pushed out for a corner by Patrick Boyes.

The visitors went close again when Cole Roberts’ cross was poked just wide of the goal by Morris.

There were no further chances in the opening 45 minutes, as the game remained goalless heading into the interval.

City opened the scoring after 57 minutes when Olivier Sukiennicki’s through ball found Morris, who finished confidently past the goalkeeper.

The Mariners’ best chance to find an equaliser came in second-half stoppage-time when the ball was cut back to substitute Callum Stratton, but his shot flew over the bar.

The Bantams successfully saw the game out and claimed an impressive win, meaning Grimsby missed out on the chance to close the gap to the top two, Notts County and Scunthorpe.
