EDIN Rahic has broken his silence on his City demise and claimed he should not be blamed for the club slipping back into League Two.

The former chairman said it was “quite absurd” that the finger was pointed at his involvement when the Bantams were relegated in 2019 – five months after he had left Valley Parade.

Rahic also suggested that it was down to Stefan Rupp that Stuart McCall had been sacked at the time, hinting that he might have decided to stick with him.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Rahic said: “In the year of the relegation I quit the club 27 games before the season ended. To talk about my ‘responsibility‘ is quite absurd.

“It was about the decision of my business partner to sack club legend Stuart McCall. In retrospect, I should have forced my conviction and the interests of the club.“

Rahic, who is still living in West Yorkshire, has denied that he is acting as a behind-the-scenes advisor for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

"I would not have time for working for VfB Stuttgart," he told Bild. "I don't plan on working for them."
