JACKSON Longridge has become the latest City departure – after less than half an hour of league football.

The left back, whose contract has been cancelled by mutual consent, is the fourth fringe player to be moved on during the transfer window and is set to join a club back in his native Scotland.

Longridge joined City with a big reputation but made just seven starts – six of them in the EFL Trophy as well as last season’s Carabao Cup exit to Preston.

Gary Bowyer had pipped Newport to sign Longridge from Dunfermline in the summer of 2019.

Longridge said at the time: “After speaking with the manager, he made it clear I am the kind of player he is looking for.”

But after featuring regularly in pre-season, the 25-year-old completely dropped off the radar at Valley Parade and joined Torquay on loan in January – making seven appearances before the non-league campaign was shut down.

Longridge’s only league involvement last season was on the opening day when he came on as an 80th-minute substitute against Cambridge.

He has fared little better this time despite being regularly named on the bench.

Longridge played all three Trophy group games, missing a penalty in the shoot-out loss to Doncaster in September, but made just two league outings as a very late sub against Stevenage and Mansfield.

Kurtis Guthrie left City last week to join Port Vale, Ben Richards-Everton went to Barnet and Austin Samuels returned to parent club Wolves.
