YORKSHIRE and Lancashire are set for another bite at the Scarborough cherry following the release of the opening 10 County Championship fixtures for 2021.

The Roses rivals had their mouthwatering North Marine Road fixture cancelled back in June as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the two sides have been scheduled to play at the popular outground again this summer, a clash which starts on Sunday, July 11.

It will be the first time since 1991 that Yorkshire have hosted Lancashire in a Championship clash at Scarborough.

Current director of cricket Martyn Moxon scored a second-innings century in a victory that year.

Only the first 10 fixtures have been released for the revamped four-day schedule, which starts for Yorkshire with a home meeting against Glamorgan at Emerald Headingley on Thursday, April 8.

The 18 counties have been split into three conferences of six.

Yorkshire are in the same conference as Glamorgan, Kent, Lancashire, Northamptonshire and Sussex.

The top two in each conference after 10 games advance into a four-game top group to fight for the County Championship title - the winner taking that honour.

The top two sides after the extra four games also then play off for the Bob Willis Trophy in an end of season final at Lord’s, starting on Monday, September 27.

If you finish below the top two places in the first conference, the rest of the campaign is played only for placings and prize money.

While the fixtures for the 11th to 14th games have yet to be released, the dates have. The Scarborough Festival fixture will fall into that.

The ECB will also release all other fixtures - Vitality Blast, Royal London One-Day Cup and the Hundred - in the New Year.

In the second and final group of the Championship, you do not play the team you advanced with from the initial stages of the competition.

But no decision has yet been made on whether any points will carry forwards.

The opening eight rounds of the Championship between early April and early June will be played from Thursday to Sunday, before the final two games will be Sunday to Wednesday.

After Yorkshire’s season opener against Glamorgan, they have back to back away games against Kent at Canterbury and Sussex at Hove, starting on Thursday, April 15 and Thursday, April 22 respectively.

Yorkshire then host Northants and Kent at Emerald Headingley on April 29 and May 6.

A trip to face Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff follows on May 13, before the first of two Roses clashes against Lancashire comes at Emirates Old Trafford, starting on May 27.

Sussex are the visitors to Headingley on June 3, before a pair of Sunday starts concludes the first conference.

Yorkshire face Northants at Wantage Road on July 4, before the match everyone has been waiting for - Lancashire at Scarborough the following Sunday.

The 11th to 14th games will start on Monday, August 30, Sunday, September 5, Sunday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 21 respectively.

As previously mentioned, the Bob Willis final will be played at Lord’s, starting on Monday, September 27.
