SALEM Athletic A hammered Girlington A by 124 runs to win the Bradford Mutual Sunday School Cricket League Rizues T20 A Teams competition.

Salem won the toss and elected to bat, with opener Mehrbaan Ahmed Khan (45) and the stylish Yasir Ali (50 not out) getting them off to a flying start, as they reached 84-3 after nine overs.

Mohammed Siraj (24) then shared a partnership of 55 with Ali, before the latter had to retire, as per the rules, after reaching his 50.

When Siraj was out, that made it 156-4, and despite a late rally from the Girlington bowlers, Salem still finished on an imposing 180-9 from their 20 overs.

Zahid Khaliq, Raza Gulzar and Farhad Raja all took two wickets apiece.

The Girlington reply got off to a dreadful start when deadly opening bowler Mohammed Akif took two wickets in his first over.

Sijjad Khan took two wickets in the following over, as Girlington found themselves in tatters on 10-4 after two overs.

Akif went on to take two further wickets, on his way to a magnificent 4-8, to leave Girlington reeling on 15-6.

Khan took his third wicket to make it 21-7 after six overs, and despite a battling effort from the tail, Girlington were eventually dismissed for a miserable 56.

Akif was unsurprisingly named Man of the Match.

It was a much closer affair in the B Team final, as Allerton beat Girlington B by two wickets in a low-scoring thriller.

Girlington won the toss and elected to bat first, making a bright enough start.

But Allerton's strike bowler Murtaza Ali dismissed both openers in the fifth over to leave Girlington on 25-2.

Those wickets saw the start of a Girlington collapse, and by the 11th over, they were left reeling with the score on 45-6.

But then Naveed Ahmed was joined by Adnaan Ahmed, and the pair steadied the ship well by sharing a partnership of 49.

Naveed Ahmed (20) eventually became Ali's third victim in the 18th over, to leave Girlington on 94-7.

Adnaan Ahmed was out caught for 35 in the final over, as Girlington finished on 109-8 after 20 overs.

Opener Ajmal Shezad (22) helped Allerton get off to a solid start in their chase, as they found themselves on 41-1 after nine overs.

But Awais Ahmed bowled magnificently in those middle overs, taking 3-13 as Allerton collapsed to 48-5 after 12.

Zeeshan Iqbal (9) and Ali (20) put on a vital partnership of 28 off 21 balls, before Riaz Muhammad had them both dismissed in the 16th over, leaving Allerton on 80-7, with 30 needed off the final four overs.

Asif Ahkter and Amir Saeed then thrashed 21 off 13 balls between them before Akhter (11) was run out.

That left Allerton needing nine runs off 11 balls, but Saeed (19no) had no intention of waiting around and finished the game off with one over to spare.

The man of the match award was given to Ali for his 20 runs and figures of 3-26.

Following the conclusion of the season, the league expressed their thanks to all the grounds for hosting the tournament.

They also paid special tribute to Dr Rizwan Hameed from The Rizues Ltd for sponsoring the tournament and making it possible for the clubs to participate by relieving them of the financial burden.
