IT was a mixed night for our clubs in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League, but Liversedge started where they left off last season, grabbing all three points in their opening Premier Division game at Maltby Main.

But they had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to win 2-1. Johnathan Williams gave the hosts the lead halfway through the first half from the penalty spot, and they went into the interval a goal in front.

But Joe Gaughan, fresh from his FA Vase double against Handsworth, equalised just after the break, before the always reliable Joe Walton headed home a dramatic 86th minute winner.

The derby clash between Thackley and Albion Sports ended 0-0, with Dennyboys skipper Paul Whiteley going closest, hitting the post late on.

It was a game that won't live long in the memory, but at least both teams put an early point on the board, unlike Eccleshill United and Silsden.

Eccleshill's home game with Goole AFC was deadlocked at 0-0 with 20 minutes to go, thanks to a magnificent first half penalty save from Eagles goalkeeper Brad Emmerson.

But he was powerless to prevent the prolific Nathan Keightley putting the visitors in front after 71 minutes.

Emmerson hobbled off injured with a couple of minutes to go, and Goole rubbed further salt in the wounds with an injury time goal from Anees Younis.

Silsden had a tough start at Garforth Town but gave it their all in a 1-0 defeat. Both sides had goals disallowed, but it was Jack Lazenby who won it for the hosts with an 83rd minute strike.

But there was much better news for Campion, who soared to to the top of Division One with a thumping 4-1 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Patrick Sykes gave them the lead after 24 minutes, but Worsbrough equalised almost immediately.

That goal did not derail Campion, who went into the break 3-1 in front courtesy of strikes from Sean Hunter and Graham Hall.

Hunter added a second with 15 minutes left to put some further gloss on the scoreline. Campion have of course played two league games, having beaten Glasshoughton Welfare 1-0 in their opener on Saturday.

Brighouse Town were in friendly action last night, and they survived a second half comeback to beat Penistone Church 3-2.

The Brighouse scorers were Harrison Beeden, Laurence Sorhaindo and Shiraz Khan.

It was a special night for 15-year-old Jay Chapman, who made his debut for Brig.
