LIVERSEDGE and Thackley coasted into the FA Vase Second Round Qualifying with wins over Handsworth and Durham City respectively.

But Eccleshill United and Albion Sports suffered away day blues, with both knocked out at the first hurdle without scoring a goal.

Silsden, like Sedge, won their home game 3-1, with their victory coming against Garstang, while poor Steeton battled hard for a 2-2 draw at home to Jarrow, before a heartbreaking 9-8 loss on penalties.

Sedge have added real quality to their squad, especially their forward line, over the summer and that proved the difference in the win over Handsworth.

Veteran former Bradford (Park Avenue) star Nicky Boshell opened the scoring for them in the fifth minute, before ex-Silsden striker Joe Gaughan made it two just after the half hour mark.

They let Handsworth back into the game in the 38th minute, conceding a penalty which was converted by Andrew Gascoigne.

But Gaughan netted his second with 15 minutes to go, to set his side up with a home time against Ashton Athletic in the next round.

Thackley faced an arduous trip to face Durham City on Friday night, but it proved worthwhile, as they came away with a magnificent 4-0 win.

The game was over before half-time, as strikes from Lewis Waddington, Seb Scaroni and an own goal put them 3-0 up after 40 minutes.

Jack Normanton added some further gloss to the scoreline by netting the Dennyboys' fourth with nine minutes left.

That win up in the the North East sets Thackley up with a home tie against Harrogate Railway Athletic in the second round.

But it was a miserable trip to Durham for Albion Sports, who lost 1-0 at Crook Town, courtesy of a late goal from Jamie Tumilty.

Eccleshill were away at Holker Old Boys, and were blown away after the break, eventually losing 3-0 after an Elliot Moore double and a late David Round strike.

Silsden comfortably beat visiting Garstang 3-1. They were 2-0 up early on through new signings Leon Hurles-Brook and Antony Brown, with the former adding a third just after the break.

A late Sam Maddox penalty provided scant consolation for Garstang. Silsden's victory means they host (my local team) Guisborough Town in the next round.

Steeton were two down at half-time to Jarrow, but a late comeback, including a 95th minute equaliser from Andrew Briggs saw them take the game to penalties.

But an epic shootout saw them fall just short, as they lost it 9-8.
