ANDREW Gale has hailed Adil Rashid as a “magician” after the Yorkshire star claimed his 1,000th career wicket while playing for England on Sunday.

Rashid, the 32-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder, returned 2-32 in England’s T20 victory against Pakistan at Emirates Old Trafford, getting Fakhar Zaman caught at long-on for his milestone.

One-day World Cup winner Rashid has played for Yorkshire, England and a handful of other teams around the world.

His first wicket came whilst playing for the White Rose in 2006, getting former South Africa spinner Paul Harris trapped lbw in a County Championship match against Warwickshire at Scarborough.

Gale said: “Fantastic. I’m really pleased for Rash. He’s a great lad who knows his game inside and out now.

“We rarely see him, but he’s a good lad to have in and around the group.

“It’s been good to see him mature as a cricketer and see how he’s gone about his bowling. He’s a magician with the ball - 1,000 wickets, what a fantastic effort.

“We’re all proud of him and really pleased for him.

“Being involved in that England white ball set-up and managing his body are contributing factors to him not playing much for Yorkshire nowadays.

“His shoulder is far from perfect now, so playing red ball cricket for Yorkshire looks a long way off. It has been disappointing we haven’t seen more of him, but we’re just proud of what he’s achieved.

“Him, Jonny and Rooty, we love having them back. They add a lot to the group, and we’re proud of what they’ve achieved.

“Ultimately, as a club, we’re here to provide England players.”

Rashid should be back in action for England this evening, as they take on Pakistan in the third and final T20 match of the series. England currently lead 1-0.
