Farsley Celtic and Halifax Town clash for the first time as equals at Throstle Nest on Saturday but there will be no points on offer for the Blue Square Premier Division rivals.

The incentive is a place in the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup and psychological advantage for the forthcoming league clashes over the holiday season.

With the three meetings so closely bunched together in the calendar, the clubs have reduced gate prices for Saturday's cup tie, adults costing £8 and concessions £4.

Celts chairman Andy Firbank said: "We are playing the Shaymen at home on Boxing Day and away on New Year's Day.

"We hope the first game will generate our biggest home attendance for a league game in the history of the club.

"But the West Riding FA County Cup has been a good competition for us over recent seasons and it would be nice to have a good atmosphere in the ground for this important tie so, with the agreement of Halifax Town, we have cut the entrance fee.

"Halifax is two stops down the railway track and I'm sure a lot of people out there would rather see a bit of football than be dragged around the town centres doing Christmas shopping.

"We have switched the tie to a Saturday because neither of us has a fixture in the league so it made sense.

"It would be nice to win and not just so that we progress in the County Cup. We would have the bragging rights over our nearest neighbours in the league."
