THE main excitement of the day in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League happened at Ryshworth Park.

Hosts Crossflatts II had the player of the match in opener Vijay Amirtharaj (42 and 3-15) in their Covid Group D clash but he still ended up on the losing side against Hepworth & Idle II.

Only keeper Joe Taylor, who made 13 not out at No 8, also reached double figures for Flatts, who were bowled out for 73 by Harvey Matthews (3-11), Harry Pinkney (3-15), Nathan Allatt (2-15) and Owen Price (2-32).

Hepworth & Idle also only had two players in double figures, opener Mark Davies (12) and Price (12no), but the latter crucially added 17 for the last wicket with Pinkney (3no) as the Westfield Laners squeezed home, despite the best efforts of Haseeb Basit (3-14) and Amirtharaj.

Eldwick & Gilstead were 12-0 in 6.4 overs against Bradford & Bingley III, who included six juniors, when rain stopped play.

Crossflatts lost their unbeaten record in Group B, going down by seven wickets at Bingley Congs.

Only the top four of skipper Dom Bennett (34), Joe Hicks (31), keeper James Roper (23) and Harris Hussain (15) made double figures in Crossflatts’ 135, as Neil Copping (3-38) and Steve Broughton (2-37) shone with the ball.

Then it was over to in-form opener George Hicks for Congs, whose 76 not out, including 10 fours and two sixes, guided the hosts to victory in the 29th over.

The elder brother of Joe Hicks added 62 for the second wicket with Chris Dibb (23).

In Group C, Hepworth & Idle were again indebted to Jonny Thompson.

The all-rounder took 2-28 and then scored 50 not out at Westfield Lane as Bingley Congs II were beaten by seven wickets.

The experienced Tony Teale (25) and keeper Chris Hemsley (20) were the top scorers in Congs’ 107 as Chris Mitchell (4-19), Thompson and Jonathan Robinson (2-15) got among the wickets.

Thompson then hit seven fours and a six in his breezy 47-ball knock, with opener Nigel Poustie (37no) playing the all-important anchor role as Hepworth & Idle recovered from 29-3 to win in the 30th over.
